Hello, friends! It’s Leigh here, and I hope this day finds you well. I’m thrilled you stopped by because I am so excited to share this project featuring Birch Press Designs’s Lovely Butterflies stamp and die set. And not only that, you can enter today to win this stamp and die set… it is a MUST HAVE for all my fellow butterfly fans! All the details to enter are below.
Have you ever noticed how pretty the little negative spaces are when you die cut your Birch Press Designs layering dies? I can never bring myself to throw them away, so I decided to make this card using those pretty little pieces to accent my focal butterfly. I started by stamping my sentiment from Birch Press Designs’s Greetings Basics stamp set onto a dark navy cardstock panel, heat embossing it in white. I then die cut a butterfly from the Lovely Butterflies stamp and die set to use as a placeholder. I save the little negative die cuts in little bags that I store with my dies, so I put them in bowls so I could start my layout.
I continued arranging my little die cut pieces, adding color and details with alcohol markers and gel pens, and layering the pieces to create dimension and interest.
As shown here, when I settled on an arrangement I was happy with, I would adhere the pieces down with low tack tape. I also decided at this point to add some white paint splatters on my background to make it look like a starry night sky.
Now that I had my elements arranged to my liking, I glued them down and started on my butterfly. I heat embossed the butterfly image with gold embossing powder and colored in the image using the same alcohol markers that I used on the florals. After die cutting the butterfly with the coordinating die, I used a dark blue marker to trace around the white border so the image would blend in with the background of the card. I carefully folded the butterfly down the center and adhered it on the fold like so the butterfly’s wings would pop up from the card, creating more dimension.
And with that, the card was finished! I definitely took a “more is more” approach to this card, but those little die cuts were just so much fun to color. I wish photographs captured the dimension that all these die cuts give to the finished product… I hope that you give these techniques a try so you can see it for yourself! It is so fun and easy to create a lot of texture and dimension.

The dark background really makes the palette pop, those bits combined to make a gorgeous card. Thanks for sharing your creativity.
Thank you so much, Andre!
This is just stunning! The colors really pop against the dark BG so beautifully.
Wow! I’m sure your Gorgeous card was a labor of love. It’s extremely worthy of framing or displaying. (I’m wondering if Arteza markers would work for a medium.)Thanks so much for sharing and if you’re ever inclined to record, I’d watch a video over and over! 😊❤️
