Block Print Elegant Koi | by Crystal Komara

Hello friends and Birch Press Design fans! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and found a little time to craft. This is Design Team member Crystal Komara here with you today and I was so excited to finally be able to use some of the amazing new ocean themed block print designs that BPD has to offer right now! Let’s take a look at my first card using the Block Print Elegant Koi.

This is an A2 sized card made from a base of 110 lb. Neenah Solar White Smooth cardstock. I pulled a pre-made background from my “scraps” pile to use as the water in the card. This background was actually made with Lindy’s “Butter the Toast” Blue Magical shaker. Then using the Block Print Elegant Koi dies, I cut the fish layers from white, peach and darker orange. The whiskers and eyes of each fish were cut from black cardstock.

I created two koi fish ad adhered them to the card using 3M foam adhesive for addd dimension. I then used a pre-made “Happy Birthday” white foil tab from Memory Company (a sister company to Birch Press Design) to add a quick sentiment.

I really love how this card came out and I hope you do too. I think koi fish are so elegant to look at, so I’m happy I was able to use these new dies to create an equally elegant card.

Thank you for visiting and have a wonderfully creative day!

  • Ocean Zine Art | Sandhya Iyer

Ocean Zine Art | Sandhya Iyer

Hello again, crafty friends! Sandhya here with another ocean-themed zine page featuring the stunning new dies from Birch Press Design’s latest release. This time, I’m spotlighting the elegant Block Print Proud Seahorse paired with the graceful Sea Kelp and Mini Fish dies.

For this zine page, I wanted to create an underwater scene that feels both magical and empowering—something that invites you to pause and take in all the details.

To start, I worked on a tag and created a textured background using layers of ink blending and splatter with Distress Oxides in aqua, teal, and sea green. I used a stencil to lift away some ink for wave-like motion.

The seahorse is cut from watercolor cardstock—inked with Distress Oxide inks. I love how the bold lines of the die really stand out against the soft ocean tones. I nestled the seahorse into a cluster leafy die cuts from the Sea Kelp and Mini Fish set.

I then added my “wild at heart” sentiment and a generous splattering of white paint. I also added some flatback gems for added glam.

I then created a pocket by sewing some vellum over pattern paper and adhered it to my zine page. This was perfect to insert my little tag.

This zine page is one of my favorite ways to celebrate the ocean theme—it’s small, detailed, and full of heart. I hope this inspires you to experiment with mixed media and dive deep into your stash of dies!

Thanks for stopping by! I’ll be back soon with more ocean-inspired creations.

    Crafting with joy,
    Sandhya

  • Block Print Passion Fruit Flower Butterflies | by Crystal Komara

Block Print Passion Fruit Flower Butterflies | by Crystal Komara

Hello friends and happy Tuesday! Welcome back to another post with Design Team member Crystal Komara. Today I have gotten a little extra creative and turned the new Block Print Passion Fruit Flower dies into butterflies. It sort of happened by serendipity – or a fortunate accident, but I’m not mad!

The base of this A2 sized card is made from 110 lb. Neenah Solar White smooth cardstock. This is my go-to cardstock for all my card bases because it is nice and sturdy. First, to create the background I cut a 5 1/4″ x 4″ piece of lilac purple paper and adhered it directly to the white card base.

Using Plate B of the Flora Plate Layer Set, I cut a piece of white cardstock and adhered this directly over the lilac purple cardstock to create visual interest.

Now for the flower/butterflies: Using the Block Print Passion Fruit Flower dies, I create flowers from various colors of purple cardstock (with green stamens. I create a total of four flours and then I accidentally dropped two of them on the flower and they kind of fell into a butterfly shape and I thought hmmmm. . . . if I cut off the stems and glue them together, they DO look like butterflies, so I went with it!

I adhered two of the flowers together to create a butterfly and then I added a second set to the front of the card.

Lastly I added a tab foil sentiment from Memory Box Company (a sister company of Birch Press Design) and voila – a butterfly card made from flowers!

Thanks for visiting and have a wonderfully creative day!

Sending Warm Wishes | by Crystal Komara

Hello friends and happy Tuesday! This is Design Team member Crystal Komara here with you today sharing a monochromatic pink card using a mixture of old and new products from Birch Press Design.

First, for this card, we’ll use the following products:

    1. Honeycomb Plate
    2. Perky Bloom Contour Layers Dies
    3. Blush 6″ x 6″ paper pack

The base of this A2 sized card is made from 110 lb. Neenah Solar White Smooth cardstock. In the past I used to use 80 lb. Neenah Solar White cardstock, but I have now switched to a heavier card base and I love it! It really holds up well. Using the Honeycomb Plate, I die cut the background from a bright pink cardstock and adhered it directly to the white card base.

Using the Perky Blooms Contour Layers die, I die cut the flowers from three different colored pink cardstock and then adhered them together with a fine-tip liquid glue. Once the three flowers were completed and adhered together, I splattered them with white acrylic paint. Once dry, I adhered the flowers to the card with 3M foam adhesive for added dimension.

Lastly, I added a black foil tab sentiment from sister company, Memory Box.

Thanks for visiting and have a wonderfully creative day!

  • Go With the Flow – Ocean-Inspired Zines Covers | by Sandhya Iyer

Go With the Flow – Ocean-Inspired Zines Covers | by Sandhya Iyer

Hello Birch Press Design friends! Sandhya here, and today I’m sharing something a little different and super fun—mixed media zines! Inspired by the new ocean and underwater-themed dies from Birch Press Design, I created the front covers for two handmade zines that I’ll be filling with all sorts of sea-themed paper art.

I absolutely love how the Block Print Floating Jellyfish and Sea Kelp and Mini Fish dies bring an instant sense of movement and whimsy. These die sets are the perfect focal point for ocean-themed mixed media projects, cards, journals, and more!

First Zine: Go With the Flow

I started with a sheet of mixed media paper that  I smooshed and splattered with Distress Oxides in different shades of soft oceanic blues to create a splashed look. I then folded it into a zine.

I added texture to the top page using clear paste through a stencil to create waves. I then created a cluster using torn paper, cheesecloth, and some vintage-inspired ephemera to nest my focal point.

I then die cut and assembled my Jelly fish out of bright pink and iridescent cardstock. I also die-cut some kelp out of watercolor paper that I had smooshed and sprayed with Distress inks in green.

The bright pink jellyfish floats over the Kelp, making it the star of the piece. The sentiment “Go With the Flow” is the perfect mantra for both ocean life and art-making!

Second Zine: Grow In Your Own Light

For this cover, I kept the background more graphic and inky with bright aqua pattern paper, and layered stamping, stenciling and splatters.

Another pink jellyfish takes center stage, accompanied by the empowering sentiment “Grow in your own light.” I love how this one feels like a dreamscape under the sea!

These zines will be a fun way for me to explore and play with all the gorgeous dies from the latest ocean-themed release. I hope these covers inspire you to dive into your stash and try something new—whether it’s a tag, journal, card, or zine.

Thanks for joining me today! I’ll be back soon with more inspiration from the sea

  • Bright Summer Hugs | Sandhya Iyer

Bright Summer Hugs | Sandhya Iyer

Hello crafty friends! I’m back on the Birch Press Design blog with another vibrant summer-inspired project! Today’s card is full of warm colors, bold texture, and cheerful florals—with a couple of bees buzzing in to say hi! 🐝

This time, I used a rich orange-red background paired with layers of delicate florals and a bold sentiment to create a card that radiates sunshine and warmth.

Here’s a quick rundown of the featured products:

Honeycomb Plate – for that stunning dimensional background

Abundant Branch Die – the layered branch, leaves, and florals that add softness and movement

Block Print Buzzing Bumblebee Die Set – adorable bees with layered wings for a fun, summery vibe

Big Hugs Sugar Script Die Set – the perfect bold-yet-sweet sentiment to bring it all together

To create the background, I die-cut the Honeycomb Plate in deep orange-red and layered the cut out pieces over cream cardstock. The bold contrast really makes everything pop! I then cut and assembled the Abundant Branch in fresh greens and soft pinks, placing it diagonally to guide the eye across the card.I added gems to the flower centers and some glossy accents over the berries for extra interest.

Next came those buzz-worthy bees—die-cut from yellow and vellum—and a quick touch with a black marker to create the stripes. I topped the design with the Big Hugs sentiment in buttery yellow, which feels like sunshine in word form.

This card is perfect for sending love, encouragement, or just a little hello across the miles.

Thanks for visiting the blog today—I hope this card brings a smile to your face and a spark of inspiration to your craft table.

    Until next time,
    Sandhya

  • The Butterflies & The Bees | by Crystal Komara

The Butterflies & The Bees | by Crystal Komara

Hello friends and happy Tuesday! This is Design Team member Crystal Komara here with you today sharing a vibrant card made with some of the latest products from Birch Press Design – the Honeycomb Plate, the Block Print Buzzing Bumblebee and the previously released Butterfly Basics.

The base of this A2 sized card is made from 110 lb. Neenah Solar White smooth cardstock. I created an alcohol ink background using Butterscotch Ranger Adirondack alcohol ink on Yupo paper. Once that alcohol ink dried, I used the new Honeycomb Stencil and sponged Versamark ink over the alcohol ink. I then applied gold embossing powder and heated that with a heat tool being careful not to burn the synthetic Yupo paper.

Using the Butterfly Basics, I die cut the first layer of the two butterflies from a piece of the alcohol ink background. I then die cut the second layer from white cardstock and adhered the two layers together with a fine tip liquid glue. Using the Block Print Buzzing Bumblebee, I die cut the bumblebee from yellow cardstock and then used a fine tip sharpie to “color” the black body. I die cut the wings from vellum cardstock.

I adhered everything to the card and then splattered the entire image with an espresso (dark brown) ink.

The “thank you” sentiment is a foil greeting from sister company Memory Box. You can find those sentiment strips here.

I hope you have enjoyed this vibrant butterflies and bees card. Thanks for visiting and have a wonderfully creative day.

  • Enjoy the Moment – A Spring-Summer Tag | Sandhya Iyer

Enjoy the Moment – A Spring-Summer Tag | Sandhya Iyer

Hello Birch Press Design friends! Sandhya here, and I’m buzzing by with a bright and cheerful spring-summer tag that’s sure to bring a smile to your face! With warmer days ahead, I was inspired to create a tag full of color, texture, and a bit of whimsy using some of my favorite new dies from Birch Press Design.

Here’s a quick rundown of the featured products:

Honeycomb Cut Out Die – the star of the background, adds depth and pattern

Rosebud Arch Contour Layers Die Set – for the soft, dimensional blooms and leafy vines

Block Print Buzzing Bumblebee Die Set – these adorable bees add the perfect whimsical touch

To begin, I cut two tag bases from cream-colored cardstock and rusty red-colored cardstock. Any generic large size tag dies or readymade tags should work for this. I cut the honeycomb panel out of the cream tag and softly ink-blended the edges for a warm glow. Then I added some scripty stamping details to add a vintage effect. I backed the honeycomb layer with a red layer to give my tag a vibrant focal point.

Next, I die cut and assembled the florals and vines as well as the bees. The bee-wings were die-cut from vellum cardstock to give them realistic wings and a soft texture. I cut the bee bodies from yellow cardstock and added the black portion with an alcohol marker.

I then tucked in leafy stems and rosebuds to build a garden around the honeycomb. I carefully added the bees and a chipboard sentiment from my stash to complete the top layer.

Finally, I used some crinkled ribbon to tie a blow and connect the 2 tag layers. I hope this project inspires you to check out the fun new bee themed release and create some fun summer projects. Happy crafting!

  • Just a Note | Sandhya Iyer

Just a Note | Sandhya Iyer

Hello friends, Sandhya here! I’m excited to share a vibrant and cheerful card featuring the Block Print Radiant Butterfly, Block Print Scalloped Butterfly, and Just A Note Scripted dies from Birch Press Design. This project combines layered die cuts, subtle textures, and a bright color palette to create a card perfect for sending a thoughtful note.

For the background, I used a piece of watercolor paper ink smooshed with Distress Inks to achieve a soft, organic texture. The soft pink hues and subtle splotches created a unique, artistic effect that makes the background truly special. I added a hint of scripty stamping to enhance the background.

Next, I focused on creating the butterflies. For the Block Print Radiant Butterfly, I selected shades of pink and yellow cardstock, and assembled the pieces to form a dimensional butterfly. Similarly, I crafted the Block Print Scalloped Butterfly using pink and yellow hues from Memory Box paper packs, following the same process of die-cutting and layering using foam tape for dimension.

For the sentiment, I used the Just A Note Scripted die to cut the phrase from white and matching pink cardstock. I adhered the pink layer ovr the white so that just a slight sliver of the white shows through like a shadow.

With all the elements prepared, I assembled the card by arranging the butterflies and sentiment on the inked background, adhering them with a combination of liquid glue and foam tape for varying heights. I finished off with a few iridescent sequins.

I hope this project inspires you to experiment with layering dies and vibrant color palettes in your card-making endeavors. Happy crafting!

  • Butterfly Birthday Card | Sandhya Iyer

Butterfly Birthday Card | Sandhya Iyer

Hi, crafty friends! Sandhya here, and I’m thrilled to be back on the Birch Press Design blog today with a card that is all about texture, dimension, and a touch of elegance. This butterfly-themed birthday card was such a joy to create, and I hope it inspires you to play with layers and die-cutting in your own projects!

For the background, I used a Gelli print on deli paper to achieve a soft, organic texture. I adhered the deli paper to a piece of white cardstock to give it stability and enhance the colors. The soft pink hues and subtle variations from the Gelli print created a unique, artistic effect that makes the background truly special.

For the focal element, I used the Birch Press Design Block Print Scalloped Butterfly Die, layering different shades of pink and yellow to give it a bright and cheerful look. I love how the delicate cutouts in the butterfly wings add an airy, elegant feel to the design.

To add a bit of greenery and movement, I tucked in some die-cut leaves from the Birch Press Design Rosebud Arch Contour Layers Dies behind the butterfly. Then, I added a few loops of gold thread to bring in a hint of shine and sophistication.

I wanted to keep the sentiment simple yet elegant, so I used a foiled ‘Happy Birthday’ sentiment strip from the Memory Box Greeting Tabs. Finally, I embellished the card with a few iridescent flatback pearls for a soft, glistening effect.

This card is perfect for birthdays, but you could easily swap out the sentiment for a ‘Thinking of You’ or ‘Congratulations’ greeting. The combination of gelli printing texture, layered die-cuts, and a soft color palette makes it a versatile design for many occasions!

I’d love to hear what you think! Do you enjoy working with Gelli prints, embossing folders, and layering dies? Let me know in the comments, and don’t forget to tag me @sanjuscreations if you give this technique a try!

    Happy crafting!
