Vintage Hugs | by Allison Frazier

Hello, Birch Press friends. I am excited to be back on the blog today sharing this bold card featuring some new products! There are some great new word dies that just came out, and I chose one of my favorite sentiments of all time – hugs.

I really was in the mood for a different and bold color palette, and the new Glimmering Gladiola paper pack from Memory Box was just what I needed as a jumping-off point. I chose some purple paper with a gold foil leaf design as my background. I took some darker purple ink and blended that around the edges of the panel before glueing it onto an A2 card base.

Next, I used the new Sunrise Cardstock pack to pick four different colors of orange/yellow to create the layers for the Perky Bloom. This flower is so easy to assemble, and I love it in these colors! Instead of choosing large leaves to complement the flower, I chose some smaller leaves from the Tiny Tuft Flowers and Leaves die set. I cut these out of purple card stock and adhered them to the card base underneath the flower.

The Big Hugs Vintage Sentiment is fun because you can assemble it in different ways. For my card today, I used the base layer die to cut purple card stock. I then took that base layer and die cut it with the detail layer die in order to create the purple outline. Finally, I glued that outline onto a white base layer. I stamped the subsentiment “sending” with VersaMark ink onto purple cardstock and then heat embossed it with white embossing powder. I splattered the card with white paint before adhering both of the sentiments with liquid glue.

To finish the card, I added some purple and orange fairy jewels around the design. I hope this card brings a smile to your face! Thank you so much for joining us today.

Vibrant and Perky Bloom | by Crystal Komara

Hello friends! Today I have a very bold and vibrant card to share with you using the new Perky Bloom Contour dies. I love mixing the Birch Press Design products with alcohol inks and I have frequently done so in the past. For other unique alcohol ink ideas, please check out my posts here, here and here. And, today, I have another one to add to my ever growing list!

    Card details:

The base of this A2 sized card is made from 80 lb. Neenah Solar White Smooth cardstock. For the background of this card, I used a pre-created piece of alcohol ink art that I keep stored in a bin for easy pull-out and use to create “quick cards” with. This background was mostly a gold honey color, but I did splatter it with black ink for extra interest.

I used the new Perky Bloom Layering dies to create the two flowers. I cut each layer of the die from pink, peach and yellow cardstock and then continued to layer them together until I had a color combination that appealed to my eye and seemingly worked with the busy background and well! I adhered the flowers to the card using 3M foam adhesive for added dimension.

Lastly, I added one of the new foil greeting black tabs from Memory Box Company (a sister company to Birch Press Design). These new foiled tabs are beautifully made and are made of a nice thick chipboard. What a quick way to add an elegant sentiment!

Sure, today’s card is very bold and vibrant, but doesn’t it also make you so happy and cheerful!? I hope you have enjoyed this card. Thanks for visiting and have a wonderfully creative day!

    Hello | by Rosemary Dennis

Hello everyone! Rosemary here on the blog today. Hope your April is off to a great start. It is a little bit of a cold start to April here in the Pacific Northwest, but that is the PNW for you, lol! Today I’m sharing a card created using the sweet Prime Peony Duo Contour Layers dies and a foiled sentiment from the new Sugar Script Sentiments 2 set. Let’s have a look at what I created.

I started off my card by deciding that I wanted to use some pretty patterned papers and do a little bit of inking on the papers once I had them die cut. I pulled out the lovely Memory Box Anemone Plaid and Anemone Grove 6×6 pads and went with a purply-blue plaid for the flowers and a dark green plaid for the stems. I die cut all the pieces and then added some distress ink in Milled Lavendar to some of the pieces.

I didn’t add any additional color to the stems as they were dark enough already. I then adhered all the pieces together. For the flowers I used a combination of liquid adhesive and thin foam squares to provide lift to some of the petals. Liquid adhesive was used soley on the leaves. I also decided to use the green flower centers that were die cut when I die cut the stems as I liked the look. In the close up photo above you can see the shading on flowers that was added with the distress ink.

After the glue had set on the flower for a little bit I adhered the stems with additional liquid adhesive. I die cut a piece of the Anemone Grove paper with a rectangle die and adhered that to a white cardstock base. I then die cut Memory Box white woodgrain cardstock with a Curved Capped Pinpoint Layers die and added some Milled Lavendar distress ink to the top portion of the die cut and then lightly around the edges. I adhered that piece with thin foam squares.

The flowers were then adhered to the panel using liquid adhesive. I finished the card with the sentiment that I foiled in matte gold and a few purply blue fairy gems.

I hope you enjoyed today’s project. Thank you for stopping by and have a lovely day!

Happy Easter | by Rosemary Dennis

Hello everyone! Rosemary here on the blog today. Can you believe that Easter is just days away?! Time is just flying by, lol. With Easter in mind I created a card using the beautiful new Floral Cross Layering die set.

I used several new products on this card, including the new Lush Layer Contour Layers die set and a new set of products from Open Studio/Memory Box: Cheerful Floral 3d embossing folder and cutting die and Cheerful Floral stencil set. My original idea for this card was to have the beautiful Floral Cross layering dies layered on top of the embossed Cheerful Floral background. Unfortunately, I have a problem with my die cutting machine when it comes to 3d embossing folders. Sometimes with beautifully detailed ones like the Cheerful Floral my cardstock shifts in the folder and the bottom of the image is blurred. That happened this time. I tried multiple times and could not get a good image. In the end I decided to die cut the center flower from each attempt and use those instead. Nice save, I think!

It was pretty easy to pop the die cuts into the stencil and color them up with a combination of pretty yellow inks. Below is a photo showing how it looks when you use the stencil with the die cut.

For the stenciling I colored the first flower and then moved it to the next spot. I then placed the second flower in the stencil and colored it. Then I grabbed the next color, added it to the first flower, then moved everything to their next spot. I continued with that until the flowers were fully colored. I used a piece of cardstock from Greenery 6×6 cardstock pad. This particular piece was one shade of green on one side and a slightly different shade of green on the other side so I was able to use only one piece of cardstock for the leaf.

The cross was die cut from white cardstock, pale yellow glitter cardstock and light yellow cardstock, then adhered together with liquid adhesive. I also used one of the flower dies from the Floral Cross set and die cut the layers from the pale yellow glitter cardstock. The pieces were layered. a light yellow rhinestone added to the center and then adhered to the center of the cross. I then began arranging all the elements on a panel of white cardstock. I used a combination of liquid adhesive and foam squares to adhere everything. The sentiment is a Memory Box die. I die cut it from white cardstock and adhered it with liquid adhesive.

Hello friends! This is DT member Crystal Komara here with you today sharing more Easter inspiration using the beautiful new Floral Cross Layer Set. I have been enjoying playing around with these new dies and I can’t wait to see what my other team members create using it as well.

    Card details:

The base of this A2 sized card is made from 80 lb. Neenah Solar White Smooth cardstock. I cut Layer A from the Flora Plate Layering Set using the same white cardstock and this became the first layer of the card adding some texture and design to the background. I die cut Layer A of the Floral Cross from white cardstock and Layer C (the bottom layer) from gold glitter cardstock. I layered the two together with a fine-tip liquid adhesive and then I adhered the cross to the card using 3M foam adhesive for added dimension.

For the large flower I used the Perky Bloom Contour Layer Set. I die cut this flower from peach, pink and yellow cardstock. I adhere all the layers together and then die cut the stamen from black cardstock. I adhered the flower to the base of the cross and added a couple green vines running up through the cross.

I am so happy with how this card came out and I am so in love with this elegant multi-layered cross and all its accompanying flowers and vines. I hope you will enjoy it too! Thanks for visiting and have a wonderfully crafty day!

You Are The Best | by Rosemary Dennis

Hello everyone! Rosemary here on the blog today with a bright and sunny card I made using the new Perky Bloom Contour Layers, Wiegela Leaf Contour Layers and Sugar Script Sentiments 2 products. I also used the Pinpoint Contour Plate and papers from the new Memory Box Sunrise and Greenery 6×6 cardstock pads.

I don’t often use yellow cardstock as I don’t have alot of it and most of the shades I have don’t really coordinate. That is a thing of the past with the Sunrise cardstock pad! The yellows in the pad coordinate perfectly! I went through the pad and pulled out the ones I wanted to work with and die cut the various layers from each. The Perky Bloom die is one piece so after diecutting I did have a few extra pieces that I didn’t need for my flower. I just simply tucked those inside the packaging the die comes in for future use! I used a combination of liquid adhesive and thin foam squares when I put together my flower. The leaves were simply adhered together using liquid adhesive.

I used a Memory Box arched die to cut the white panel. The arch is only on one side of the side so to create the second arch I simply flipped the arch to the other side and die cut that portion of the panel. I then laid the panel on the Pinpoint Contour plate and ran it through my die cutter. This panel was adhered to a panel of yellow cardstock that I die cut with a rectangle using foam tape for dimension. I like how the arched panel fits perfectly inside with just the ends showing the yellow peeking out!

Now it was time to add the flower and leaves to the panel. I glued down the leaves and then added the flower I made sure to only add glue to the center of the flower so I could slip in the thin foam squares when I wanted to to provide dimension and lift to the flower petals. The last thing to do was foil the sentiment. I used matte gold foil and my hot foil machine. I foiled all the sentiments in the Sugar Script Sentiments 2 set as I wasn’t sure which one I wanted to use. I settled on “you are the best”. I used the die for the sentiment to cut additional layers from scrap cardstock and adhered them to the sentiment with liquid adhesive. The sentiment was then added to the card also using liquid adhesive. I had some yellow nuvo drops that I added to the tips of the stamen for a little more dimension.

I hope you enjoyed today’s card. I had a lot of fun creating it! Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful day!

  • Easter Crocus | by Allison Frazier

Easter Crocus | by Allison Frazier

Hello, Birch Press friends! I am excited to be back on the blog today sharing the new Floral Cross Layer Set. This is a beautiful set of three layering dies, which also includes small florals. I decided to change things up by using a different floral set – the Sprouting Crocus Contour Layers.

I started by die cutting all of the pieces from both die sets from white card stock. I also used the Pinpoint Contour Plate with a piece of white card stock for the background. I inked up the edges of this background with light blue Distress Ink. I then inked up the floral die cuts with Distress Inks. For the Cross, I inked up the middle layer with yellow ink and the outline layer with light blue ink.

I started assembling the card by glueing the solid cross layer onto the card panel. I then glued the thin blue outline layer around the cross. It’s better to glue the solid piece first because the outline layer is very delicate. I then glued the other two layers of the cross on top.

I cut a small piece of card stock with the lower portion of the Pinpoint Contour Plate and I fussy cut just above the pierced curve. After coloring this piece with green Distress Ink, I added it to the bottom of the card with foam tape. I then tucked the various Crocus flowers under this little grassy hill that I created.

To finish the card, I added a sentiment from my stash and a small sprinkling of fairy drops. I hope this card brings a smile to your face! Thank you so much for joining us today.

  • Floral Birthday Wishes | By Sandhya Iyer

Floral Birthday Wishes | By Sandhya Iyer

Hello, friends! This is Design Team member Sandhya Iyer here today and I am sharing a floral birthday card featuring a gorgeous new coordinating embossing folder and stencil set. The Cheerful Floral 3D Embossing Folder and Die and coordinating Stencil set from Memory Box is fun to play with and creates gorgeous embossed florals for card fronts. Another fun new product I instantly fell in love with is the Happy Birthday Foil Greetings White Tabs. There are birthday and thank-you versions of these tabs as well as black and white versions.

I started by gently spritzing a white card panel with water to make it damp. Then, I placed it inside the 3D embossing folder and ran it through my die-cutting machine. Next, I used the layering stencil set to ink blend my way through the layers. The floral swag looked amazing just like that.

But then I saw the masking stencil and wanted to give it a go. So I masked the colored floral swag and ink blended a purple background with Distress oxide ink. Honestly, I was super nervous going over the background with such a dark color. But I secured my masking stencil with strong magnets and the background blending went pretty smoothly.

Finally, I ink-blended around the edges with blue distress oxide to add more interest. I also inked around the edges of the birthday tab and adhered it to the panel. I attached the completed panel to a white card base and finished off with a few pearl embellishments.

This brings us to the end of today’s post. Thank you so much for stopping by and I hope you have fun crafting today!

A Gift For You | Dilay Nacar

Hello crafty friends! Dee here, excited to share a vibrant floral card featuring the stunning Large Cosmos Contour Layers. I started by cutting two Forest Canopy Layer Dies, one in white and the other from a green ink-blended panel. After rotating the green, I blended parts of the white into it before adhering.

Next, I cut the Large Cosmos Contour Layers and ink-blended the edges with a vibrant purple, centering with yellow and green. I attached it over the leafy panel using foam adhesive squares.

To complete the look, I added a simple sentiment strip from my stash and mounted the finished piece onto a top-folding card base.

Thanks for joining me today, friends!

  • Rose Bunch in Blue | by Crystal Komara

Rose Bunch in Blue | by Crystal Komara

Hello! Happy Friday friends! I hope you have great things planned for the weekend ahead. This is Design Team member Crystal Komara and I’m very excited to share today’s card with you in my favorite color – blue! This card uses lots of beautiful products from Birch Press Design including the Rose Bunch Contour Layering Dies, Mixed Berry Contour dies, Just a Note Noted Script Hot Foil plate and Rose Leaves Contour Layers! Continue reading to learn how I created this very detailed card:

I’m not going to lie, putting the Rose Bunch Contour Layers together is the most cumbersome part of this card and it truly irritated me a little, but the end result – is SO worth it!

    Card details:

The base of this A2 sized card is made from 80 lb. Neenah Solar White Smooth cardstock. I then adhered a 5 1/4″ x 4″ piece of bold blue cardstock directly to the card base. I then began cutting two sets of the Rose Bunch Contour Layers from three different colored blues cardstocks. (Please see the end of this post where I have pictures of how I die cut these pieces and assembled them). Once the flowers were assembled, I then assembled the leaves using a light green cardstock and a green glitter cardstock. (Again, there are additional photos at the end of this post. )

I assembled the Mixed Berry Contour dies using gold glitter stems and two different colors of blue cardstock for the berries. This was just a lot of gluing of little tiny pieces!

I adhered the leaves to the card first and then layered the roses on top. Once everything was situated where I wanted it, I peeled off the backing of the tape and pressed it all firmly into place. I splattered the entire card with a little gold paint. Lastly I heat embossed the sentiment using the Just a Note Noted Script hot foil plate. I used gold foil on white cardstock. I adhered the sentiment to the lower right side of the card using 3M foam adhesive for added dimension.

Here are the closeup photos of how I die cut the roses and then assembled them:

Step 1: Cut base from bold blue cardstock
Step 2: Cut contour layers from another color blue
Step 3: Begin to adhered the contour layers together
Step 4: Assemble the Rose Leaf Contour Layers

When it all comes together, this card is just simply beautiful and worth all the piece work of those contour layering dies! Thanks for visiting and have a wonderfully creative day!
