    Using Your Dies to Create a Scene

    Hi there, it’s Tracey back here today and I have a quick tutorial to show you how I got inventive with my dies to help me create a scene on a grassy field.

    I started off with a panel of Bristol Smooth cardstock, my favourite for use with Disress Oxides inks. All my colouring today was done with Distress Oxide inks. I ink blended my grass at the bottom of my panel using Pine Needles and Lucky Clover inks.

    I wanted to create clouds for my sky but I didn’t have a cloud stencil or die. So I used the Regal Peacock dies set, Layer A to make my own stencil.

    I cut the tail using lightweight cardstock, and turned the tail on it side and blended a cloudy sky using Tumbled Glass ink. Moving the stencil along from left to right, carefully turning it to fit the cloudy scene I was trying to make. Now that my background is done I set it aside to dry while I worked on the rest of the card.

    The pumpkin and stem from the Pumpkin Lacework stamp set were stamped and clear embossed on Bristol Cardstock once again. I blended Wild Honey, Spiced Marmalade and Carved Pumpkin ink over the embossed pumpkin to add a bit of shading and dimension. I blended Peeled Paint and Frayed Burlap ink over the pumpkin stem. I cut the ink blended shapes out with the coordinating dies.

    The leaves that are around the base of the pumpkin are from Layer B of the Autumn Breeze dies set. After I cut the panel, with Bristol Smooth cardstock, I ink blended the individual leaves in autumn colours.

    I cut the wavy banner die from the Christmas Ornaments and Labels stamps set from white cardstock. Then I stamped a sentiment is from the You Are Awesome stamp set on to the banner. When I picked up the banner I got a bit of orange ink on to the one side of the banner. No need to start again, I just blended orange ink all around the banner. So now it is just between you and me!

    It was so fun to create a my scene using just what I had on hand. The peacock tail die came in handy to create those clouds in my scene. I  hope I have encouraged you to look at your supplies a bit differently. Just another way to maximize the use of what you have.

    Hello, friends! Have you started your holiday crafting yet? I am just dipping my toes into the holidays, and I was so excited to start the season making a card featuring the gorgeous Frosty Flake Layered Snowflake dies from Birch Press Design!

    I started this winter-themed card by creating my background. I used white pigment ink and the Memory Box Fractal Diamond stencil to create a subtle background on a piece of light aqua cardstock. I then die cut two foliage pieces with Memory Box’s Silverdale Branch die, which is a gorgeous foliage die. I used Copic markers to color in the die cuts before adhering them to my card. A tip: to create dimension on your cards, don’t adhere the ends of your foliage die cuts. It’s so beautiful and interesting to see the ends of the die cuts floating from the surface of the card!

    I then die cut all 3 layers from Birch Press Designs’s Frosty Flake, using vellum for layers A and C and white cardstock for layer B. I adhered this beautiful snowflake over my foliage. I then cut two smaller snowflakes from the Mini Snowflake Frame, using all 3 layers in the same configuration as the first snowflake. I adhered these on the edge of my card.

    To finish the card, I heat embossed my sentiment from the Christmas Ornament and Labels stamp set on vellum. After adhering this to my card, I added white splatters over the whole surface and a few sparkly sequins here and there.

    Good morning! Ardyth here with an easy way to get more from the gorgeous leafy background in the Christmas Ornament and Labels stamp set.

    First, I stamped the background with green ink and did some no-line colouring with alcohol markers. I die cut an ornament and blended it with red ink, leaving a lighter area on the top right as a highlight. I popped it up on the card right over the ornament outline that is part of the stamped background.

    I stamped one of the banner sentiments and cut it out, and popped it up over two of the branches, cut with the die included with the set. I added Nuvo Clear Crystal Drops to my red berries.

    Then, I did it all again! This time, I chose a darker, warmer green colour for my leaves, and orange and pink for my berries.

    I covered the stamped ornament outline with a die cut pumpkin from the Pumpkin Lacework stamp set. I blended orange ink over it, using the edge of the negative portion of my die cut, to give some dimension.

    I stamped one of the included sentiments, cut it out and popped it up on the pumpkin, along with the stem and a maple leaf.

    Hi friends! I hope you’re having a great day! Fall is in the air and I’m enjoying the crisp cool nights and seeing the leaves turn color!

    Birch Press Design is known for it’s innovative layered die sets, and honestly I think they keep getting better and better.

    The sets are really versatile and more detailed. I used only two of the three dies in the set and covered the panels with distress ink before stacking them. I love the contrast of blue and orange. The yellow panel you see is the card base.

    I really wanted you to get a close look at the detail on these panels. All three of the panels in the set have a beautiful pierced design. You can see the swirls on the blue cover panel that inspire the name of the set “Autumn Breeze”.

    I inked the Thanks Honey Script die with Blueprint Sketch Distress ink to match the ink on the cover panel. The stamped sentiment is from the Lingo Thanks stamp set.

    Autumn always gets me thinking of Thanksgiving – and I start counting my blessings. I just want you to know that I am ever so grateful for your friendship now and always. Hugs to you for always making me smile!

    Hello, friends! I am so excited to be sharing these cards made with Birch Press Designs’s Dahlia Heart Layering Die set. Keep reading to see how easy it was to create these die cut cards with felt!

    Over the past months where we’ve been spending more time at home than normal, my daughter has re-discovered her crafty side and the joy of making and giving handmade gifts. She is into all things boho, and I was inspired by her favorite color palette in making this trio of cards made with wool felt so she could give these cards to her friends.

    I started my cards by selecting three shades of wool felt in pink, peach and yellow (I recommend using a good quality wool felt for this). I adhered a sheet of double-sided adhesive to the back of each piece, and ran them through my die cut machine with Birch Press Designs’s Dahlia Heart Layer A die. I ran each piece through twice to make sure I got a nice clean cut through my felt (a precision base plate is also helpful when die cutting wool felt). I then die cut the same shape out of heavy 110# white cardstock three times and adhered each one to a base. After that, I took individual pieces of felt and inlaid them into the cardstock bases. This went quicker than you’d think (about the length of one bad TV show LOL), and how great is it that you get three different hearts out of this one process? Not to mention that the soft texture of the die cuts lends such a unique and special touch to the cards.

    After finishing my die cut inlay, I wanted to create three distinctive card designs to showcase these soft and pretty hearts. For the first, I adhered a strip of coordinating patterned paper to white woodgrain-embossed cardstock and attached the heart to the left of the panel. I cut my sentiment from Birch Press’s Smile Sugar Script die from woodgrain patterned paper and added a few gold gems to finish the card.

    For my second card, I cut a white panel from Birch Press’s Amour Layer A die and adhered it to a base I cut from woodgrain paper. I adhered my card on top, wrapping it with twine for some more texture. I stamped my sentiment from Poppystamps’s Greeting Basics stamp set onto vellum, embossing it in gold and cutting it out in a tag shape (and cutting out an identical tag shape from dark woodgrain cardstock as a base). I hung the tags from the twine to finish the card.

    For my third card, I die cut all three layers from Birch Press’s Grace Layering Die set and adhered them to a deep yellow card base. I then simply adhered the heart, die cut my sentiment from the Hugs Sugar Script die, and added some gems for a little added sparkle.

    I can’t tell you how much fun I had making these cards! They have already been confiscated by my daughter to give to her friends, and I can’t wait to try this technique with more dies.     Hello! Seeka here and today I have a monochrome card featuring the Christmas Ornament and Labels stamp set. Lately I’ve been leaning towards aquas and blues for the holidays, but you could easily use any color of the rainbow!

    I started by using white embossing powder to heat emboss the background onto a piece of periwinkle cardstock. Next, I smooshed a bit of Blueprint Sketch Distress Oxide ink onto my work surface and used a water brush pen to paint in some of the leave shapes. I used concentrated dark color closest to the ornament, and then diluted the pigment with water to paint increasingly lighter blue as I moved out to the edges of the card.

    Next, I used the coordinating ornament die to cut another piece of the same color cardstock. Using a blending brush, I blended blue dye ink onto the edges of the ornament to create a bit of depth and color variation.

    I spritzed the ornament with Hero Arts White Iridescent Shimmer spray, and then used a paint brush to flick a bit of white gouache over the ornmanent.

    Next, I used the Big Shine Sugar Script dies to cut the word shine three times from white cardstock. I stacked and adhered the three layers together, and then adhered that piece to the shadow layer, which I cut out of vellum.

    To assemble the card, I adhered the ornament to the background with foam tape, and then used more foam tape to adhere the sentiment. Then I adhered the card front to an A2-sized card base. As a finishing touch, I used added a few drops of Nuvo Chalk Stick Vintage Drops to some of the open circles in the pattern.

    Hello, friends! I am so happy to be here today sharing this stitched card I made using Birch Press Designs’s Autumn Leaves Layering Die Set. This card was such fun and was so easy to make thanks to these beautiful layering dies!

    I started my card by die cutting layers A and B, adhering them together, then adhering them atop an A2-sized aqua base. I then die cut my leaves using pretty shades of pink, orange, and yellow cardstock using layer c. To add some extra texture and dimension, I stitched the leaves using 4 strands of 6-strand embroidery floss. To achieve this, I poked holes in every about other stitch hole with a paper piercer to enlarge the holes. I then stitched through those holes using a simple backstitch.

    I then used Poppystamps’s Greetings Basics stamp set to emboss my sentiment in gold onto white cardstock. I fussy cut a tag shape and popped it up on foam tape. I then adhered a pretty gold ribbon underneath the tag and adhered the leaves around the tag using liquid adhesive. A few gems here and there finished this card.

    Hi there and Happy Fall! It’s Tracey here today and as I was blending my leaves for today’s post the leaves outside my window are almost blending just as fast. Just like a light switch summer turned off and autumn has arrived.

    For today’s card I used only one die, Layer B, from the Autumn Breeze Layer dies. A brilliantly designed set of three dies that all work together but can each work independently of one another giving you options to showcase two different scenes. Layer B can be used all on it’s own and cuts all these beautiful stitched leaves.

    I cut a panel from Bristol Smooth cardstock and I ink blended each individual leaf using Distress Oxide inks. I used Squeezed Lemonade, Wild Honey, Spiced Marmalade, Candied Apple, Fired Brick, Ripe Persimmon, Peeled Paint and Walnut Stain to create a variety of different coloured leaves.

    I cut another A2 sized panel of Bristol Smooth cardstock and then ink blended a background using more Distress Oxide inks. I started with Crushed Olive and then brought in some Peeled Paint from the edges and finished off with some Walnut Stain just on the edges.

    I covered the card front with a piece of gold paper from the Polished Foil pad and then I adhered the green ink blended panel over top. Each one of the blended leaves was inlaid into the die cut. The gold splatters were created from red gold metallic watercolours.

    Once dry I added a sentiment from the Pumpkin Lacework stamp set. I used the ‘Fall is in the air’ quote which I gold embossed on brown cardstock and die cut it with the co-ordinating Pumpkin Lacework die set. The sentiment was added with foam tape to complete the card.

    Hi there its Tracey here today and I would love to share a bit of Autumn inspiration with you. I love summer, but the nights are getting cooler, the days are getting shorter and the sunflowers are in full bloom, which for me means fall is on its way.

    Using fall colours along with the Viloa Plate Layers die set will change the mood to autumn. This die typically would be used the most in the spring or summer. I have created four cards to show you how you can create a whole different feel with your layered dies just by changing the colour. This is a great way to maximize the use of your dies. Remember that each one of the layers in a die set can create a beautiful card all on it own. I gave this die set a late summer, early autumn vibe.

    This first card uses all three layers of the Viloa Plate Layers die set. I wanted to make the flowers look like sunflowers so I chose my colours carefully. The layer C die has holes it will show your bottom layer which is typically your card base. What ever colour that is will show through. I added a soft blue cardstock panel to the card base. Layer C was cut from brown cardstock and Layer B from golden yellow. Then I ink blended a panel of Bristol Smooth cardstock with Squeezed Lemonade Distress Oxide ink leaving it a bit lighter in the centre of the panel. Once it was dry I cut it using Layer A. If you wait and make sure your panel is dry before die cutting the cut is always so much cleaner. All the layers were glued together and then glued to the cardbase.

    Card two uses only Layer A from the Viloa Plate Layers die set. It was cut golden yellow glitter paper from the Delicate Pastels Glitter Pad. The card front was covered with a panel of light yellow cardstock and the glitter piece was glued directly onto the card front giving it a nice tone-on-tone appearance but with the added bonus of sparkle!

    The next card uses only Layer B from the Viloa Plate Layers die set. It was cut from a golden yellow cardstock. I ink blended Wild Honey Distress Oxide ink around the edges giving to give the die cut a bit of depth. The card front was covered with a panel of soft blue cardstock. The die cut was glued directly to the panel.

    The last card uses Layer C of the Viola Layer die set. This might be a favourite of mine. It was cut it with the soft blue cardstock. The Layer C die creates beautiful stitching lines when it cuts which make it a perfect die to use all on i’s own. I ink blended Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide ink around the edges of the die cut. Once again I did this to add some depth to the design.

    All of the sentiments are from the You Are Awesome stamp set. They were all embossed with a gold pearl embossing powder on brown cardstock.

    When you have a set of Birch Press Design craft dies you can use just one die or all of the dies together o maximize your investment. Just by choosing a colour palette you can change the mood of your dies and your cards. All of your dies can be used year round!

    Stitched Pumpkin Lacework Card | By Leigh Houston

    Hello, friends! I am so happy you stopped by today. I am here sharing how I made this stitched card using Birch Press Designs’s new Pumpkin Lacework card. This gorgeous design lends itself to so many mediums from beautiful and delicate coloring to simple stitching.

    I started my card by stamping my pumpkin, stem, and some leaves in alcohol-marker friendly ink. I then did super simple Copic coloring in soft shades of yellow, orange and green. To add texture to the card, I poked holes along the stamp lines and stitched the images using a simple backstitch with white embroidery floss. This was the perfect project for TV nights with the family! I finished the pumpkin with some yellow gems for some sparkle.

    After cutting out my images, I cut out a panel using the new Autumn Breeze Plate Layer A and attached it to my card base. I adhered the pumpkin and leaves to the card base and added my “hello” sentiment cut from gold mirror cardstock. A few gold sequins and this card was finished!
