Regal Peacock Slimline | by Tracey McNeely

Hi there it’s Tracey and I’m so excited to share a really colourful card with you today using the new Regal Peacock Layers dies! Before I got started I looked online for photos of Peacocks to help me out in making colour selections for each layer of the tail.

Here is a look at the supplies that I used for my card today–cardstock, craft dies and Distress Oxide inks.

The peacock will fit on a standard A2 size card base but I decided it would be fun to create a slimline card so that the peacock would really stand out! My slimline card is 3 ¾” x 7 ¾” and the inside panel is 3 ½” x 7 ½”.  I began my card by creating an ink blended background using Mowed Lawn, Lucky Clover and Peacock Feathers Distress Oxide inks along with my blending brushes. Once I finished blending the panel I flicked some watered down white acrylic paint on to it. Below is a link to the video I created to show you how I created my card.

Layer A which is the body of the peacock and the full shape of the tail are all cut from a bright royal blue cardstock. This way the once all the layers are adhered together you will see the tiny dots of blue like you would on a peacock’s tail when it’s fanned out.

I used two shades of green cardstock for Layers D and C and then layer B which is the top layer I die cut from gold sparkle cardstock which looks just gorgeous!

The blended ink panel was adhered to the 3 ¾” x 7 ¾” slimline card base. The peacock was attached to the blended card panel with foam squares to give it a bit of dimension. The sentiment is from the No One Like You stamp set as it was white embossed on the bright royal blue cardstock and added to the bottom of the card with foam tape.

Thank you so much for coming by today and I hope I inspired you to create something with the Regal Peacock Layer set. Come back again on Friday for more Birch Press Design inspiration!

  • Double Embossed Jellyfishby Jennifer Svare

    Double Embossed Jellyfish
    by Jennifer Svare

This is a simple jellyfish card in a deep, clear ocean blue background. The deep ocean is clear and beautiful – so peaceful with no distractions. Can you imagine the quiet flicker of lights from a jellyfish as it floats by? The tentacles on this card sparkle and “move” with holographic embossing powder when tilted in the light. The photos capture the basic idea, but in real life, there is a lot of movement created when the light hits the tentacles.

I remember being in Monterey Bay Aquarium several years ago, and the jellyfish exhibit absolutely captivated me. The way the jellyfish seemed to have lights running through them was amazing.

By the way, heat resistant acetate makes a beautiful jellyfish when using the holographic embossing powder! Very hard to photograph, but it’s a must-try if using this stamp. I had a lot of fun playing with that idea as I created today’s project. In the end, the white and blue card won because it stood the better chance of being photographed, but I would like to encourage anyone to give that a try with this stamp. Gorgeous!

I love how the jellyfish stamp from the Ocean Fantasy stamp set has very delicate tentacles, along with a couple thicker ones that are perfect for adding color or sparkles to. I stamped with VersaFine ink, then used white for the embossing powder for the main image and lettering. (I can also see a gold embossed jellyfish on a plain white card using the double embossing technique. So many options!)

After the main stamp had been embossed, I used a VersaFine pen to create little dots on the cap, and “colored” in two of the tentacles with this clear ink. Using a VersaFine pen is a great way to add embossing to little hand-drawn dots and color fill-ins. I then put holographic embossing powder over what I had drawn in, and heat embossed a second time.

The sentiment from Let Your Light Shine stamp set along with the jellyfish creates such a simple but strong message and I love that about this card.

When holding this card straight, the sparkles do not stand out, but when tilted, the “lights” shine and even seem to be moving as the card moves in the light. If you’ve never seen a jellyfish glow, it is really worth seeing! In the meantime, this is a super easy, fast card to make and I hope you give it a try!

  • Grateful Leaf Frame! | By Desiree Kuemmerle

Grateful Leaf Frame! | By Desiree Kuemmerle

    Hello Everyone and Welcome Back!

For today’s project I will be using the Grateful Frame Stamp Set! I thought this was perfect for no line coloring… so grab your favorite coloring medium, mine will be colored pencils, and let’s get started

For no line coloring you want to make sure you stamp your images with a very light ink. Once my image was stamps, I chose my colors I will be using by swatching them out on a piece of card stock, the same I am using for our project.

Now the fun begins, we get to color our image. When using colored pencils, I like to start with a light layer of my lightest color and then come in with my mid tone and then add my dark layer to add my shadows. Over all of those layers I add one final layer of the lightest color to blend them all together.

For the frame I used two dark colors so my sentiment would stand out, but instead of stamping the image in black ink I used a charcoal grey to keep it subtle.

I trimmed my panel down to approximately 5 ½ inches x 5 ½ inches and used a black card stock to mat my image and placed it on to a 6 inch x 5 ½ inch side folding card base.

Added some Vintage Drops by NuVo in Chocolate Chip around my image for an embellishment.

As always, I hope you enjoyed today’s project… and if you want to see more details just click on the video below and see how these projects come together step by step!

Make sure you stay tuned for more wonderful projects coming soon! Have a great day and always remember… Be Creative!

We hope you’ve enjoyed seeing projects made with the new release! The blog blitz is coming to a close but there is still time to enter to win some of the new designs. You have until midnight US EST Tomorrow, August 26 to comment on the posts you’d like to enter. And don’t forget to check out our INSTAGRAM page. We’re giving away a prize, and one for your friend on each of the blog blitz posts.

Today I’m sharing a card made with the Only Fish In The Sea stamp set. I inked the large stamp with Momento Tuxedo Black ink and colored the entire panel with Copic Markers.

I had fun coloring the fish in yellow, orange, and red. The background is colored with B24 and 26. I wanted to add some depth and dimension and thought the two colors would help create that effect.

Normally I would have colored and colored to remove the uneven coloring around the fish, but I think in this case it creates a sense of movement. The set has a handful of sentiments perfect for stamping in the center of all the fishies!

When the panel was complete I covered it with Wink of Stella clear for some sparkle and shine. The results were very subtle so I added some Glossy Accents to just SOME of the fish. I love the texture and shine!

This is a really fun playful set and the stamp is BIG! My finished card size is 5 1/2″ Square. I can’t wait to explore using it more with different techniques!

    Lumina Thanks and Giveaway!
    by Jeanne Jachna

I hope you’re having a great day! This month we’re sharing projects made with the new release, and we have lots of giveaways too!

Today I’m sharing a sparkly card made with the Lumina Layer A die! That’s the giveaway for today too!

This effect is as easy as one two three! First I cut the Lumina A die from a panel of white card stock that I attached a piece of packing tape to. The tape prevents the die from cutting all the way through. I used the cut lines as a guide to color in the panel with Copic Markers.

Next I applied an even coat of Deco Foil Transfer Gel. This gel is unique because it dries completely clear.

Lastly I layered a completely cut Lumina A die and adhered it to the wet panel before sprinkling it with ultra fine crystal glitter.

After the assembled panel was dry. I shook it off and added another Lumina A die cut over the first one. This isn’t necessary, but it adds a little depth to the design.

A Lingo Type Thanks sentiment completes the card. I cut it from black and white card stock, and then assembled the pieces. This left me with TWO completed Thanks word sentiments. One for today’s project, one for another day.

Now for the part you’ve been waiting for.

  • No One Like You – GIVEAWAY! by Tracey McNeely

No One Like You – GIVEAWAY! by Tracey McNeely

Hi there I hope you have had a chance to check out the new release products at Birch Press Design. I am really excited today to introduce two of the new stamp sets! For my card today I used the new No One Like You stamp set for my background design and the Ocean Fantasty stamp set for my focal image!

I began by white embossing the fun school of fish from the No One Like You stamp set on to a panel of Bristol Smooth cardstock. I made sure that I rubbed my anti-static powder bag all over the panel so that I wouldn’t get any stray embossing powder melting where I didn’t want it. This step is so important when you are ink blending a background, especially a dark background, because those stray embossed bits will pop right out. I blended Salty Ocean, Mermaid Lagoon, Blueprint Sketch, Chipped Sapphire and Black Soot Distress Oxide ink.

I trimmed the panel down to fit on my card base leaving a 1/8″ white border around it. I stamped and fussy cut the turtle from the Ocean Fantasty stamp set and coloured it with Copic markers. It was then adhered to the centre of the school of fish with foam tape.

I finished off the card with the perfect sentiment from No One Like You which was white embossed on black cardstock, trimmed down and added with some more foam tape.

The turtle fit perfectly over the the space right in the centre of the school of fish. It appears that all the little fishies are swimming to the turtle!

GIVEAWAY ALERT!! We are celebrating the new release at Birch Press Design, and are giving away the No One Like You stamp set that I used on today’s card! For your chance to win leave a comment for me on today’s post. I love to read your comments.

  • A Single Lumina – GIVEAWAY! | By Desiree Kuemmerle

A Single Lumina – GIVEAWAY! | By Desiree Kuemmerle

    Hello Everyone and Welcome Back!

For today we have a couple of projects to show. The first we will work with all 3 layers of the Lumina Layering Die Set and the second will once use Layer A! Stay Tuned for the Giveaway Details! LOL

For our first card and as always let’s start by choosing our cardstock colors and getting them ready for die cutting.

Once they are die-cut we can then start to glue then together. I like to use a liquid adhesive; I feel it gives a better bond to this type of intricate images.

I cut a piece of vellum to 4 ¾ inch x 5 ½ inch and scored at the ½ inch mark on the long edge. I adhered my layered panel onto the vellum and then attached a card panel that measured 4 ¼ inch x 5 ½ inch. This panel helped to hide the vellum strip I had on the inside of my card.

I continued to cover up the back side of the vellum so we would no longer see the glue marks by cutting another bottom layer of the set. Also cut out a semi-circle using the inside die-cut as a template.

I added the HUGS sentiment to the outside towards the bottom with another sentiment on the inside as well being hidden behind the panel we attached on the other side.

For our next, let’s just use one of the layering dies from the set! The layer I chose was Layer A… I wanted to create a lot of color for this die cut, so I grabbed a piece of white card stock and used my oxide inks to create a blend of colors to resemble a sunset.

Once this panel was dry, I die-cut my layer.

I adhered my die-cut to my standard A2 size card base and then used black card stock for the backing of the smaller semi-circle. This helped to make the belnded colors to pop off the page.

Added some double-sided foam squares for a little bit of dimention!

For an added touch I used my Nuvo Black Gloss Drops in the die openings!

And our cards are completed and ready for any occasion!

    GIVEAWAY ALERT!!

  • Thanks So Very Much | By Eloise Blue

Thanks So Very Much | By Eloise Blue

Hello friends, Eloise here and today I have a simple Thank You card using the Make A Statement Stamp Set as well as the Stitched Heart Dies.

I started off with ink blending some Picked Raspberry, Spun Sugar and Scattered Straw at the bottom of my watercolour panel. I flicked on some water and dried it off with a heat tool.

I then stamped the ‘Thanks’ sentiment from Make A Statement onto the bottom of the panel and then die cut the two smallest hearts dies from Stitched Hearts from the bottom of the panel as well.

I then decided to use the Grace Layer A Dies as an embossing folder onto my white card base. I did this by using rubber mats through my die cutting machine. Once it was embossed I added foam tape onto the back of my coloured panel and adhered it on top of the card base.

Lastly, I white heat embossed the ‘So Very Much’ onto a thin black strip, adhered it onto the card base and added a hemp cord bow on the side.

The video is linked down below if you’d like to watch.

  • Layered Stitched Hearts | By Desiree Kuemmerle

Layered Stitched Hearts | By Desiree Kuemmerle

    Hello Everyone and Welcome Back!

For today’s project, I chose a technique very simple using supplies we already have in our stash, cardstock!

I will be using the Stitched Heart Die Set, and not just one die, but all of them! I nested the dies within each other and used my tape to secure them in place.

Chose my card stock colors and die cut my images, keeping the die cuts together and in order as best as I can. I cut a piece of white cards stock to place in back of my panel so my hearts have a place to rest on as I build my layers.

Let the gluing begin… Choose which section of the heart you want to have more dimension and layer that card stock onto top of each other. Make sure the color you want to be on top is last! This is a great alternative if you do not have any foam tape!

Once my hearts are in place, I grabbed my sentiment from the Best Friends Clear Stamp set and heat embossed it using white embossing powder at the bottom of my design panel.

I added some sparkle using my shimmer pen to my hearts and then for two I added glaze to the top to add even more dimension.

    Our card is complete!

As always, I hope you enjoyed today’s project… and if you want to see more details just click on the video below and see how these projects come together step by step!

  • Hello Friend | by Tracey McNeely

Hello Friend | by Tracey McNeely

Hi there it’s Tracey here today with a fun take on using a mandala with a trendy alcohol ink background.

I created this background using one colour of alcohol ink! The colour is Eggplant and with using alcohol blending solution and an air puffer with some Yupo paper I was able to get all these fabulous purples, pinks and cranberry colours!

I simply started with a sheet of Yupo Paper and I added some drops of alcohol ink, followed by alcohol blending solution and then I moved the ink around quickly with an air puffer. These are the supplies I used for my card.

Once the panel was dry I cut Layer A of the Grace mandala craft die set from white cardstock which cut the panel in three pieces. I used just the centre cut mandala to create a frame for my two layer sentiment which will be the focal point of the card design. I cut the Big Hello Sugar Script die using white cardstock for the detail hello and heavyweight vellum for the shadow. I glued the two pieces together to form the main sentiment.

The second line of the sentiment was created from the Best Friend clear stamp set. I needed to do a bit of stamp surgery to create my custom sentiment to say exactly what I wanted it to say. Three stamps were cut and I pieced together for the perfect phrase to go with hello. The sentiment was embossed with white embossing powder on to an eggplant coloured cardstock and then trimmed down to a thin strip.

The mandala was adhered to the alcohol inked background directly with liquid glue. Then the two line sentiment was added on top with foam adhesive tape to add a bit of dimension.

The alcohol inked background in these vibrant colours is the perfect backdrop to really make the white mandala and sentiment pop!

A really fun technique and seeing it all come together at the end made
the effort of creating the background so worth it. I hope you give a technique like this a try, it is a wonderful way to really showcase the Birch Press Design craft dies!

Thank you for stopping in today and be sure to come back again on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for more design team inspiration!
