Thinking of You | By Dilay Nacar

Welcome, crafty friends! Dee here sharing this card created using scraps to make a bold and colorful focal point! To start, I die cut the Pinpoint Radial die in white, then adhered it onto an A2-sized top folding card base. Next, I cut each layer of the Kinsley Layer Set from white cardstock and adhered them together. Once complete, I adhered the Kinsley Layer Set to the center of the Radial Pinpoint background.

As a paper crafter, I tend to have a lot of scraps and look for ways to use them as much as possible! For this card, I used a piece leftover that I had sprayed with acrylic paint that I die cut with the Tiny Tufts and Leaves Contour Layers die set.

Before adhering the Tiny Tufts and Leaves, I stamped ‘Thinking of you & best wishes’ from the Happy Lingo stamp set in black onto white cardstock, trimmed it down (keeping only ‘thinking of’), and set it aside. I then cut the ‘you’ from Happy Lingo coordinating die set in white and black cardstock and adhered them together. I then adhered to both sentiments to the center of the Kinsley Layers.

Once the sentiment was in place, I tucked the Tiny Tuft and Leaves behind the sentiment and secured them with liquid and foam adhesive. To finish, I added clear embellishments l to the leaves.

I hope you enjoyed today’s card and are inspired to create something new!  Thank you so much for stopping by!

    Arista Floral
    by Jeanne Jachna

I hope you’re having a good day! I love flowers! When it’s too cold outside to enjoy the garden, I’m happy to be making with them in my craft rooms so the new release makes me HAPPY!

I like to cut lots of flowers in several different shades of cardstock all at the same time. When it comes time to making I have my choice of flowers to arrange. I lay them out on a clear piece of plastic the size of my card front before I commit and adhere them in place.

Because the plastic is clear I can pick up the entire arrangement and layer it over different backgrounds. For this card I used Viola Plate Layer A. Using just one layer of the three layer background set allows more color and gives a lacy look to the background.

To create a focal point I added an Arista Layer B die cut with a darker shade of pink adhered underneath. The foliage is adhered flat to the card base, and the florals are adhered with adhesive foam tape. This adds dimension.

Remember when you’re making that there’s no right or wrong.. it’s all about what appeals to you. I hope you’ll mix and match your different sets and imagine your flowers in unexpected colors. I think you’ll be delighted with the results!

  • Rainbow Berries | By Allison Frazier

Rainbow Berries | By Allison Frazier

Hello, Everyone! Today I’m sharing a colorful, cheerful card featuring the Eucalyptus Stem and Berries Contour Layers die set. As you can see, I only used one little part of that die set, but that’s sometimes all you need! I love using products in unexpected ways, and these berries end up looking like bubbles, don’t they?

One of the best things about making this card is that I got to use a bunch of the little scraps of card stock that I refuse to throw away. Each of my berries/bubbles is a different color of card stock. I just cut really small pieces of each color and was able to cut about three different colored berries at a time with the die.

I was going to use the other part of the berry die to cut solid white circles to go behind my berries. But, I already had a bunch of white circles that have been in my stash forever, and I was excited to finally get some use out of them! I glued the berries onto two layers of those circles. The white circles are slightly larger, and I love how they look. Before adhering them to my card base, I stamped the sentiment with black pigment ink. I think this cheery sentiment goes so well with all of the color.

I adhered the berries/bubbles to the card with glue, trying to make the placement look random. I then added some clear drops around the circles, which I think adds to the bubble effect. I love how the card turned out. It’s very clean, yet playful.

Thank you so much for joining us today. I hope this card brings a smile to your face.

    Wishing you a crafty day,
    Allison

Honeycomb Stacks | by Toni M Maddox

Hello, Birch Press fans! Toni here with you today sharing another idea I had using the Honeycomb Bevel Plate Layers and Memory Box Sunset Blush Wide Washi I used on a card a couple of days ago.

I applied the Sunset Blush Wide Washi to a white piece of cardstock then embossed a Kind Hearts sentiment in black in the corner.

I then cut the piece using Honeycomb Bevel Plate B.

I popped out some of the honeycomb cells and adhered what remained to the card front cut from a citrusy yellow-green from the Sunny Yellow 6×6 pad.

I cut another set of honeycomb from a thick white cardstock and adhered layers of it beneath the floral pieces to create a cool height differential.

I had leftover honeycomb from my inspiration card and used that to “scatter” honeycomb beyond the edges of the washi as well as to add a few sponged cells. I then spattered the lot with orange and white spray inks. Dreamy!

I hope you enjoyed today’s card and have a great rest of your week!

Watercolored Blossoms | by Toni M Maddox

Hello, Birch Press fans! Toni here with you today sharing a watercolor floral card featuring a mix of the new and the old.

I watercolored the base layer of the Eucalyptus Stem and Berries Contour Layers dies using Zig Real Brush Markers.

I also watercolored the smaller of the Simple Butterfly Contour Layers dies, keeping them separate so I’d have two butterflies.

On the card base, I applied Memory Box Sunset Blush Wide Washi Tape, smoothing out air bubbles as I went along. It’s a lot like working with wall paper but stickier–LOL!

I next cut out the Honeycomb Bevel Plate Layer Set with the lower layer in Vintage Pastel Mirror Pad 6×6 paper and the upper in white.

I adhered the honeycomb layers to the card front and added the Kind Hearts sentiment which I had stamped onto white cardstock sponged with a touch of Distress Oxide Mustard Seed.

I tucked the blossom in place behind the sentiment and added the butterflies for a lovely spring/summer scene.

I hope you enjoyed today’s card and have a great rest of your week!

    Floral Bouquet Hello
    by Jeanne Jachna

Hi and thanks for stopping by! Today I thought I’d make a floral bouquet to show you how well the new Birch Press Design floral release looks assembled together on one card!

I’m smitten with these gorgeous florals and think I could make with them all day long. I’ve cut the flowers in lots of different colors so I have my pick of the garden.

The background of my card is the Viola Layer B from the 3 die set. I love the pierced design and think it looks like lace!

I arrange the florals on a piece of clear plastic the size of my card base to help me figure out the design. I started with the two larger Winsome Roses in the lower corner with two Eucalyptus Stems tucked underneath. Pimpernel leaves are tucked under the roses, and Tiny Tuft and Star Flowers are scattered through the foliage.

The finishing touch are some dew drops – some Memory Box Fairy Drops! I really love making with these florals.. it’s rainy here and sometimes you have to make your own sunshine!

Meadow Blooms | by Toni M Maddox

Hello, Birch Press fans! Toni here with you today sharing a Nordic-inspired friendship card.

I diecut the Flora Plate Layer B from Memory Box Stormy Blue 6×6 Paper Pad and adhered it to the card base.

Next I diecut the Wispy Blooms and Tiny Tuft Flowers & Leaves Contour Layers from Memory Box Lush Green and Sunny Orange 6×6 Paper Pads. I love those colors with the pale blue.

I embossed the Brush Sentiment onto a strip of the same blue paper and adhered it to the bottom of the card, creating a window box look. I really like the contrast of the solid paper against the patterned background, don’t you?

I hope you enjoyed today’s card and have a great rest of your week! Don’t forget to check out these goodies in the shop. They’re so amazing!

  • Dainty Rose Hugs | Natasha Vacca

Hello Crafty Friends, it is Natasha here and I am excited to be back today to share a bright and colorful card using the beautiful Dainty Rose and Leaves Contour Layers die set! So let’s get started!

I started by die cutting the the Dainty Rose layers using the Vibrant Violet card stock paper pad. I love these paper pads as the colors coordinate beautifully together! I chose 3 colors of card stock from this paper pad for my roses. I die cut all the layers for the 3 roses and set them aside. Next I die cut the leaves from the Dainty Rose set using the Lush Green paper pad. For the leaves I chose 2 coordinating colors of card stock from this paper pad.

Next I ink blended on each layer of the roses and leaves die cuts. I used Distress Oxide Inks to ink blend on the card stock. I used a combination of Distress Oxide colors. I was so happy with the result! I love the added dimension this provides. Once my ink blending was complete, I carefully adhered each layer together using liquid glue.

For the background today I used a gelli print I had previously created from my stash. I loved the combination of colors with these gorgeous roses and leaves! I trimmed my panel down and then adhered this to an A2 card base. I then started to work on placement for my roses and leaves. I first adhered the leaves with a both liquid glue and foam tape. Once these were adhered I added some metallic watercolor splatters to my leaves and and background for added dimension. Once this was dry, I then adhered my roses to my card panel.

To complete my card I chose a sentiment from the Kind Hearts stamp set. I stamped the hugs sentiment using black ink. This completes my card! I hope you enjoyed today’s card and I will be back soon with more inspiration!

  • Rose Bunch | by Crystal Komara

Rose Bunch | by Crystal Komara

Hello crafty readers! This is Design Team member Crystal Komara here with you today. I’m excited to be featuring an exciting new product today called Rose Bunch, it is part of the new Contouring Layer Die release from Birch Press Design. This is a 3-piece layering die set that will create beautiful, intricate, realistic looking flowers.

    Card details:

The base of this A2 sized card is made from 80 lb. Neenah Solar White Smooth cardstock. Using the Pinpoint Radial Plate, I die cut the first layer from black cardstock. Using the Rose Bunch Contour Layering die, I die cut the three layers from three different colored yellow cardstock using the Sunny Orange 6 x 6″ paper pad. Below I’ll show more details photos from how I die cut the layers:

    The base layer
    The middle detail layer
Layering the bottom and middle together (using the imprinted lines to align layers)
    The top most intricate layer
Using the included guide to help align layers

I’ll be completely honest that while lining up the layers was easy enough, it did take a good amount of time and a fair amount of patience. Admittedly, patience in intricate things is NOT my strong suit, so it was a learning curve for me. *I also found that a fine-tip liquid glue held the layers together well, although my tip for the future would be to use adhesive lined cardstock for easier assembly.

Using the Dainty Rose and Leaves Contour die, I die cut the leaves only using the Lush Green 6 x 6″ paper pack. I adhered the leaves behind the roses. I adhered the roses to the card using 3M foam adhesive for added dimension. Lastly, I stamped the sentiment “thinking of you” in yellow ink on a piece of white cardstock. The sentiment is from the Contempo Greetings stamp set and it also has a coordinating die. I adhered the sentiment using 3M foam adhesive for added dimension.

These new Contour Layering dies are SOoooo gorgeous! With this rose bunch you could create floral designs in every color of the rainbow leaving you with so many options. Flowery cards are also great for nearly e-v-e-r-y occasion!

Thanks for visiting and have a wonderfully creative day!

  • Clean and Simple Birthday | by April Antonio

Clean and Simple Birthday | by April Antonio

Hello everyone and welcome back to the Birch Press Design blog! April here sharing a clean and simple birthday card that was easy to pull together. I am also sharing a diecut inlay technique that I tried for the first time, so keep on reading!

So one of my favorite things about layering dies is how easy they make it to quickly pull together a card, and the Flora Plate Layering Die set does not disappoint. I think most of us would love to always be able to spend hours crafting, but that is not usually the case because distractions…er, I mean very important obligations happen — it’s called life right?!

For this card, I cut layers B and C of the Flora Plate set from heavyweight white cardstock and glued them together. Then I grabbed both the Floral Ballon Layer C and the word ‘party’ from the Let’s Party Sugar Script letter die set. Importantly, this set has the word ‘party’ and it’s shadow — I grabbed both the word and the shadow.

Now here is the cool diecut inlay technique I used

    1. I die cut the balloon twice from white cardstock. I will use one layer as a backer.
    2. I then took the shadow of the word ‘party’, laid it into the center of one of the balloon pieces and die cut straight into the balloon.
    3. I cut the shadow of ‘party’ twice more from a piece of white cardstock, then cut the actual word ‘party’ a few times from heavy weight cardstock.
    4. For assembly I put the balloon that had ‘party’ in the center on top of the backer balloon piece. Then I inlayed the shadow of ‘party’ right into the center of the balloon thus completing the diecut inlay part. Also, to give the entire piece more stability I added the shadow behind the backer balloon and lined it up with the shadow on top. This is not needed — I just wanted to give a little more stabilty to my diecut piece.
    5. Lastly, I put the word ‘party’ on top of the shadow after stacking it a few times and inking it up with navy ink.

I love how this look turned out. I usually will diecut inlay into the background of a card, but have not did this into another diecut and I like it. I did ink the edges of the top ballon with a light pink ink.

To finish the card off I tied some yellow twine around the balloon, curled it, and secured the curl with liquid glue. Lastly, I added some much needed bling from the Memory Box Autumn Fairy Crystals set to brighten the entire card.

That is it for today’s post! I hope this post has inspired you to stretch your supplies by finding creative ways to use them together..and that you will find this diecut inlay on a diecut technique fun and helpful!
