Blog Blitz – Day Three – Close to the Heart Clear Stamps | by Tracey McNeely

Welcome back to the final day of the Birch Press Design Blog Blitz! We are showcasing our new butterfly exclusive craft dies and new clear stamp set. What’s a blog blitz?  We’ll it’s a chance for us to show you some designs made with the new products and give you a chance to win.
Today I am showcasing the new Close to the Heart stamp set and matching craft dies.

I am very excited to show you what you can do with these beautiful butterfly images. Here is a look at the stamp set and the matching dies which are sold separately.

To make the projects I am sharing today the butterfly images were heat embossed on white Bristol cardstock with clear embossing powder! To do this you first prep your cardstock with an anti-static tool, embossing buddy or even a dryer sheet. Then you apply Versamark ink to the butterfly image(s) and then apply black archival ink. Stamp on to your cardstock and then sprinkle your clear embossing powder to the image(s). Heat set so that you get a smooth and shiny black embossed image. Once cooled use the craft dies to cut out the images.

I coloured the images using watercolour markers using a waterbrush to blend the colours. For my background I used the previously released Sevilla background dies cut in soft grey and white. The sentiment is from the Close to the Heart clear stamp set embossed in white on black cardstock.

For my second project I created a tag using the smaller butterfly from the set. For the background I used the Sevilla C craft die to create a stencil and applied embossing paste. A couple pieces of greenery from the Brushed Christmas Greetings stamps and craft dies set were stamped in green and tucked in between the tag base and the butterfly.

    Another look at the card.

  • Blog Blitz Day One – Paradiso Butterfly | by Jeanne Jachna

Blog Blitz Day One – Paradiso Butterfly | by Jeanne Jachna

Oh happy day!  We have a brand new craft release to introduce to you!  If you love butteries, this is going to make your heart flutter!! LOL!!   To celebrate we’re having a blog blitz!  What’s a blog blitz?  We’ll it’s a chance for us to show you some designs made with the new products and give you a chance to win.

I’m excited to share the new Paradiso Butterflies!  These dies are sold separately or as a set.  Here’s what they look like..

Starting with the yellow at the top – that is Paradiso Butterfly Layer C.  The middle one, the orange die cut, is Paradiso Butterfly Layer B, and the very last die cut in red – the most intricate – is Paradiso Butterfly Layer A.   These dies are beautiful each on it’s own – but they’re even more amazing when you start stacking them!

The three layers really bring the butterfly to life!

I started with a background of flowers!  The Sevilla background dies make a beautiful background.  I chose contrasting colors (complimentary or opposites on the color wheel to make the bold colors pop!   I added accents in yellow (enamel dots, and sentiment flag) to coordinate with the yellow in the butterflies.   The sentiment “dream  big” is from the new Close to the Heart clear cling stamp set.

Want a chance to win one of these pretty Paradiso Butterflies?  You’re choice of whatever layer you would like!   Just leave me a comment!

Christmas Ornaments | By Laurie Schmidlin

Today I’m sharing a Christmas card that is both festive and easy to mass produce!  With just a few Birch Press Design Holiday Dies and matching stamp set, I created a card that is colorful, fun, and only took a handful of minutes to assemble!  During the busiest season of the year, it’s invaluable to have tools that do all the work, saving me a lot of precious time!

    christmas-ornaments-by-laurie-schmidlin

I just love the fine detail the Bailey Ornament Trio has!  This is a large, one piece die that is perfect for creating a negative die cut.  A negative die cut is one that  utilizes the non-cut portion of the die rather than what the die cuts out.  As you can see from the photo above, the snowflakes on each ornament is connected to my card front.  To achieve this look, I started with a 3 3/4″ x 5″ piece of white cardstock.  I centered the die on my card and ran it through my die cutting machine.  I then discarded all of the pieces that the die cut out.

To achieve the pops of color, you could either hand cut some colored cardstock and adhere to the bottom of your card front or use some coordinating dies to save time!  Because I am mass producing this card, I chose to use the coordinating die to quickly and easily add the pops of color.  I die cut one of the smaller ornament dies from the Classic Ornament die set in three different colors.  I added just a little bit of adhesive to hold them in place.  I only needed a tiny bit of adhesive as the next layer keeps them firmly in place.  I did add some shiny silver cardstock behind the other cutouts, causing the tops of the ornaments and strings to stand out a little bit.

For embellishment, I added some greenery and a bow.  The pine sprigs are stamped using the Brushed Christmas Greetings stamp set and die cut using the coordinating Brushed Christmas Greetings die set.

What about you?  Do you mass produce your Christmas cards or do you prefer to create unique individual cards?

  • My Collection’s Growing…

    My Collection’s Growing…

    image

Growing up my mom always had a thing for tea towels! She was always changing them out to match what the time of the year was, or what her recent obsession was. She went through phases. One time it was roosters, another time lemons, even the classic hummingbird craze! Among other things, I think the love for tea towels is one of the many wonderful things I picked up from her! I recently found a blog that has 16 different whiskey recipes, and I have a feeling I will be spending a lot of time in the kitchen- those towels will come in handy!

    image

Birch Press Design has adorable patterns of tea towels that I am just dying over! I don’t think I will ever have quite the collection that she has, but I am slowly builiding it!

  • Meal Prep Revolution!

    Meal Prep Revolution!

    image

Pots, pans, utensils, cookware in general can get pretty pricey. The kitchen can be an one very expensive room in your home. I believe there are certain pieces that you can get on a budget, but one of the most important pieces in your kitchen you should invest in is your knives. A sharp knife versus a dull one can make all the difference in your time in preparing your meal. Trust me! I’ve been dying to try this new cast iron skillet chicken recipe I found and I can’t wait to break in my new knife set with this dish!

    image

From paring knives to bread knives, Birch Press Design has just the knife for you’re looking for! Also available are knive sets including a 6 piece set, 7 piece set, and a 9 piece set- perfect for all of your kitchen needs! Believe me when I say your cooking experience will be changed forever once you try these knives!

  • Summertime Recipes!

    Summertime Recipes!

    image

If you’re anything like me, then when you try a new dish at a friends house and fall in love with it, you totally ask for the recipe! Unless it’s a secret family recipe that’s generations old, I jot it down right away! And summertime is one of the best times to get new recipes! With all of the BBQ and graduation parties I’ve attended these past couple months, I could have a whole recipe box full of potato salad dishes!

I love displaying my favorite summertime recipes in my kitchen! Birch Press Design has the most adorable recipe box tins just for that. And recipe cards to match! My baby cousin graduated from high school last month and the graduation party was dessert galore! My sister loves searching for new recipes to try out and she brought peach bakewell tarts– HEAVENLY! And you know what I did! I searched high and low for her in the house full of guests and begged her to give me the recipe! And that recipe is going straight to its new home- my new recipe box tin!

I know I could use a couple more BBQ chicken recipes and you could too!

    vases

In the last couple weeks I may have gone a flower happy. There are fresh flowers all over my home. When you walk into my home, there are gardenias on the entry way table. Step in further, you will find some lilies in the living room. Every bathroom has a bunch somewhere in sight. I just can’t help myself!

When I was redecorating for the summertime, I found myself stumped when I already had a lot of decor going on in my guest bedroom, but I still (of course!) really wanted to add just a little liveliness to the room.

Birch Press Design has the perfect vases just for that! The splash vases are mouth-blown and hand-formed to resemble droplets of rain. These gorgeous vases are ideal for making a big impact with a single stem.

Try and picture your childhood bedroom. If you’re anything like me, you had posters of your favorite artist, mine: Michael Jackson, cassettes (remember, it was the 80’s) all over the place, and cork boards that were filled with polaroids, concert tickets, and held flowers that I was given to at the school prom.

If you’re looking to display your fond memories of travel or fun, exciting times you shared with your closest friends and family, but are looking for a modern twist, Birch Press Design has just the thing for you! These chromatic black finish of these iron-edged hanging frames will add a modern twist to your home!
