Hello and Happy Valentine’s Day, friends! Dilay here with you today, sharing a clean and simple yet intricate ‘sending hugs’ card. This card showcases the beautiful Banner Heart Layer Set, Kinsley Heart Layer Set, and Rose Bunch Contour Layer dies!
To begin, I created the background by die-cutting each piece of the Kinsley Heart Plate Layer Set (A, B, and C), adhering them together, and then onto a top-folding card base.
Following that, I cut the Banner Heart Layer Set from various shades of pink cardstock and pink glitter cardstock, then adhered the heart on top of the Kinsley Heart Layers.
Afterwards, I fashioned a single rose using the Rose Bunch Contour Layers in various pink and teal cardstock colors. I assembled the layers and placed the rose on top of the heart. To complete the look, I added a pink foiled sentiment from the Sugar Script Sentiments 1 Hot Foil Plate and Die Sets.
Hello Birch Press friends, I am excited to be back up on the blog today sharing a fun and easy card using the Banner Heart Layering die set! So let’s get started!
For today’s card I started with the Banner Heart Layering die set. I die cut layer A and C using white card stock. I then die cut layer B using the Festive Glitter paper pad. For the glitter layer I chose a dark blue shade from the paper pad. I then ink blended layer A and C using Distress Oxides. I used a combination of Distress Oxides: Saltwater Taffy, Picked Raspberry, Seedless Preserves, Shaded Lilac, and Villainous Potion. Once the layers were ink blended I set these aside to dry.
Next on layer B, I wanted to add a bit more texture to the glitter paper pad. I used a combination of paper glaze, as well as embossing powder! I love the texture this provides. Once the other heart layers were completely dry, I added Gilded Foundry wax to sections of the heart. I then adhered all the heart layers together using liquid glue.
Next I chose a gelli print from my background stash and dry embossed the background using the Ringadings embossing folder from Memory Box. I then applied white pigment ink to sections of the folder and ran it through one more time. I like this effect and the random texture this provides the dry embossed background. I allowed the ink to dry, then trimmed the panel using my paper trimmer for my card base.
I completed my card by stamping a sentiment from the Contempo Greetings stamp and die set. I stamped the sentiment in purple, trimmed using the coordinating die, then applied foundry wax and ink on the edges as well. I then adhered the card panel, heart, and sentiment to my card base.

I took a short break from the blog here, and now I’m happy to be back with you, sharing the love of Birch Press Designs! With Valentine’s Day around the corner, I wanted to share a lovely card using Banner Heart dies and You Are Loved Sugar Script die and hot foil plate. Also, I’ll be using Bevel Plate layering dies, Phlox Blooms & Leaves dies, Memory Box Vintage Pastel paper, and Flora Plate (A only). All of the products used will be listed at the end of my blog post!
First, I die cut the Heart Banner and Phlox Blooms & Leaves onto white watercolor paper. I planned to add a lot of color and water, and watercolor paper holds water well. I sprayed the heart and flowers with Lindy’s Magicals in shades of blue, yellow and pink. I love the shimmer these magicals add! I also created a background using pink, red, and blue magicals. Then I set everything aside to dry. When they were dried, I adhered the layers together. In the photo below, you can see a closer look at the heart die and flowers! These are PERFECT for Valentine’s Day!!!
Next, I focused on adding the layering designs to my card, using Flora Plate Layer A and Bevel Plate layering dies. I die cut all of the dies onto white cardstock. I layered the Flora Plate A over the colorful background to soften the intense color just a bit. I adhered all the layers from the Bevel Plate and placed them over gold cardstock from Memory Box. Then I adhered that over the background panel. The touch of white to the card panel will help the colorful heart, flowers, and sentiment stand out! Plus, the Bevel and Flora dies add beautiful texture!
The next step was to work on the sentiment using You Are Loved sugar script. I hot foiled the sentiment in pink foil over white to coordinate with the background, and then die cut the sentiment using the coordinating die. You can see the lovely, shiny sentiment in the photo above!
Now I was ready to put it all together into a Valentine’s Day card! I adhered the Banner Heart layers over the Bevel Plate dies in the lower right corner. Then I added the flowers and coordinating leaves to the corner of the heart using foam tape for the smaller flower. I love how the colors blend so beautifully! Then I placed the sentiment to the upper left corner using foam tape. I finished with a couple of clear drops over the center of the flowers! Below is one more look at the finished product!

Hello readers and happy Monday! This is Birch Press Design Team member Crystal Komara here today continuing all with all the love-themed cards I seemed to have made in January. And, yes we’re still two weeks away from Valentine’s Day! Today’s card might be one of my favorites because of the ink splattered black background. A black background really allows for the colors to pop!
Card details:
The base of this A2 sized card is made from 80 lb. Neenah Solar White smooth cardstock. I cut a piece of black cardstock measuring 5″ x 3 3/4″ for the first base layer. I splattered this sheet of cardstock with white acrylic paint to add some dimension.
Next, I created the two hearts that became the focal piece of this card. Using the Banner Heart Layering dies, I die cut Layer A from white cardstock, Layer B from baby pink cardstock and Layer C from a bolder magenta pink cardstock. I layered all three layers of each heart together with a fine-tip liquid glue.
Lastly, I stamped the sentiment in Versamark ink on a thin strip of magenta cardstock. I heat embossed the sentiment with white embossing powder. I notched the left edge of the sentiment strip and adhered it to the card using 3M foam adhesive for added dimension.
With a black background you could make those hearts in ANY color combination and I think it would still make for a beautiful Valentine’s Day (or love) themed card.

Hello crafty readers! This is Design Team member Crystal Komara here today and I’m excited to start making some Valentine’s Day cards. It seemed like this holiday season I had started Christmas cards back in October, so I’m really for a change! And who doesn’t love love themed cards?
Card details:
The base of this A2 sized card is made from 80 lb. Neenah Solar White smooth cardstock. I cut a 5 1/4″ x 4″ piece of magenta cardstock to use as the base layer, adhering it directly to the white card base. Using the Viola Layering Plates, I die cut Layer B from white cardstock. I layered this over the magenta pink cardstock, so the pink shows through the die cut layer.
Next using the Banner Heart Layering dies, I die cut three hearts from dark pink, light pink and white cardstock. I only die cut Layer A from the Banner Heart dies and layered it onto a solid piece of the corresponding cardstock. I adhered the three hearts to the card using foam adhesive for added dimension.
Lastly, I stamped the sentiment “you’re in my heart” in pink ink on a thin strip of white cardstock. I notched the left side of this sentiment strip before adhering it to the top right of the card using 3M foam adhesive. This sentiment is from the Lingo Thanks stamp set.

Hello Birch Press Design fans and happy New Year! This is design team member Crystal Komara here today and I tried out a messy new technique over the holiday season! Shaving cream! Now, I’m not typically a “messy” technique kind of person, so this one scared me a bit, but in reality, it was not nearly as messy as I envisioned. My only tip would be to use unscented shaving cream, my card does have a bit of a medicinal smell!
I found a whole variety of YouTube tutorials on how to make shaving cream backgrounds, but essentially I spread a 2″ layer of shaving cream into a 12″ x9″ jelly roll pan and dropped ink colors randomly over it and then used a toothpick to swirl or spread the ink around. Then I simply placed sheets of 5 1/4″ x 4″ Mixed Media paper into the shaving cream and let dry a little before wiping off the excess with a paper towel. I made about 30 backgrounds in under 30 minutes and each one has it’s own unique marbled look.

The base of this A2 sized card is made from 80 lb. Neenah Solar White Smooth cardstock. This is my go-to cardstock for everything – die cutting, card bases, card inserts, Copic coloring, etc. It’s much easier to just keep one style of paper in my craft room than trying to figure out what paper works best for what.
I cut the shaving cream background into a 5″ x 3 3/4″ rectangle and die cut the heart out of the center of the card using the Banner Heart Layer set. I placed a piece of acetate behind the shaving cream background to create a shaker card. Next I die cut Layer A of the same Banner Heart Layering dies from a magenta pink cardstock and adhered it to the front of the acetate. Using foam adhesive I lined the back of the shaving cream background end-to-end (so no sequins will fall out) and placed about a tablespoon of sequins on before sealing the ends.
Lastly, I stamped the sentiment “love and hugs” in black ink on a thin white strip of cardstock and adhered the sentiment strip using 3M foam adhesive for added dimension. This sentiment came from the Lingo Thanks stamp set.

Hello friends and happy May! I feel like May is the unofficial start to summer, which also means that wedding season is upon us. This is Design Team member Crystal Komara here today to inspire you with a wedding/love themed card using a variety of product from Birch Press Design.
Card details:
The base of this A2 sized card is made from 80 lb. Neenah Solar White smooth cardstock. This is my go-to white cardstock for e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g! To create the background of this card I used Layer Plate C of the Flora Plate Layer set, and I die cut it from white cardstock. I mounted that die cut piece onto a piece of white cardstock for a white-on-white look and then mounted both pieces onto black cardstock before adhering it to the card base.
For the largest heart I used the Flora Heart Layer C. I die cut Layer A and Layer B from red cardstock. I adhered the two layers together with a fine-tip liquid glue. Then I adhered those of a piece of white cardstock and fussy cut a heart shape background. I adhered this heart to the card using 3M foam adhesive for added dimension.
To create the two smaller hearts, I die cut Layer A of the Kinsley Heart Layer Set from white cardstock. I adhered this over a sheet of red cardstock and then fussy cut the individual hearts out.
For the sentiment, I stamped the font in black ink on white cardstock. This sentiment is from the Kind Hearts clear stamp set. I then used a heart punch to punch the sentiment out. I adhered the sentiment too the card using 3M foam adhesive.

Hello friends and happy Valentine’s (or Galentine’s) day to you all! This is Design Team member Crystal Komara here today. I wish you a day filled with love, happiness and a lot of something sweet! I have one last love or heart themed card to share with you for this season.
Card details:
The base of this A2 sized card is made from Neenah Solar White Smooth cardstock. Using Layer A of the Flora Layering Plates, I cut the background layer from white cardstock. Using the new Banner Heart Layer set, I cut Layer A (the top layer) from magenta pink cardstock. I used the I cut Layer B (the middle layer) from black cardstock. I cut Layer C (the bottom layer) from a magenta pink glitter cardstock. I adhered all three layers together using a fine tip liquid glue. Then once the layers were dried, I adhered the hearts to the card using 3M foam adhesive for added dimension.
*Note, I cut two of each layer of the Banner Hearts die so that my card would have two hearts on it. Lastly, I stamped the sentiment “to my friend” in magenta ink on a piece of white cardstock. This stamp is from the Kind Hearts stamp set. I then used a small punch to punch out the heart and adhered it on the top of the card.

Hello and happy Friday everyone! Rosemary here with a trio of love themed cards that I created using the fall out pieces from a card that I previously created using the Banner Heart layered die set.
When I created the original card, I wasn’t thinking that I would make another three cards, but I quickly realized that I couldn’t just throw away the fall out pieces that were left after I die cut the Banner Heart layers from the glitter cardstock I used. That got me thinking about how I could use the dies and the fall out pieces in a different way.
I decided to use each layer of the die to emboss the cardstock and then layer on the corresponding fall out pieces. I die cut three panels of white cardstock and got to work embossing each panel.
There can be some trial and error when using your dies to emboss, but I was super happy when all three embossed perfectly the first time. The impress I got is very deep because I had to use my thick embossing mat as I wasn’t able to find the thinner one. To emboss a die on cardstock you need to make sure that you use an embossing mat. The mat is flexible, usually tan in color and comes with your die cutting machine.
To emboss with your dies, use low tack tape to keep the die in place on your cardstock. For me my embossing sandwich was die cutting platform, cutting plate, embossing mat, cardstock and die (cutting edge facing down) and additional cardstock shims. For everyone else who has the correct embossing mat the sandwich would be cutting platform, cutting plate, embossing mat, cardstock and die (cutting edge facing down). Then run it through your die cutter. Some people like to lightly spray their cardstock with water in order to make it a little more pliable so the cardstock doesn’t crack. I didn’t do that with my cardstock, but the cracking was minimal.
Here is a close up of one of the cards. I found that the embossing left me with really nice impressions on each panel. Layering in the fallout pieces was super easy. I finished off each card with the same sentiment from the Contempo Greetings stamp set and Fairy Jewels that coordinated with the colors of glitter cardstock that I used from the Memory Box Glitzy Glitter 6×6 pad and the Delicate Pastel Glitter 6×6 pad.

Hello crafty friends and happy Wednesday! This is Design Team member Crystal Komara here with you today sharing some Valentine’s Day themed inspiration, but in non-traditional colors. I’m all for the lovey-dovey, over-the-top, red and pink hearts everything, but what if you want to tone it down just a bit and tell your friends you’re thinking of them? Well, keep reading because here’s my version of sending some love and hugs that isn’t so mushy-gushy romantic.
First, I LOVE this color combination of mint green, teal green, gold and white. It’s classic and it’s elegant. You can also see what it looks like here with a Christmas themed card. Or here, where I added just a touch of baby pink color too! Clearly, it’s a combination I love as I have used it frequently.

The base of this A2 sized card is made from Neenah Solar White Smooth cardstock. This is my go-to white cardstock for e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g! It’s great for card bases, layering, die cutting, distress oxide blending and Copic coloring For the very first base layer I cut a piece of teal green cardstock to measure 5 1/4″ x 4″ from the Lush Green 6″ x 6″ paper pack. Using the Kinsley Heart Layering Plates, I cut Layer C (the bottom layer) from gold glitter cardstock. Next I cut Layer B (the middle layer) from mint green cardstock, also found in the Lush Green 6″ x 6″ paper pack.
I cut Layer A (the top layer) from white cardstock. I adhered all three layers together with a fine-tip liquid adhesive before adhering them all to the card base. I then cut a 5 1/2″ x x 1 1/2″ strip of white cardstock and adhere it to the bottom third of the card. This allowed me to place the words “hugs” onto a white background in order for it to stand out against the detailed die. I used the Big Lingo Type Hugs die here. I cut the bottom thicker layer from teal green cardstock and the top thinner layer from gold glitter cardstock. Lastly, I stamped the sentiment “thinking of you” from the Lingo Thanks Clear stamp set in teal ink on white cardstock. I adhered the sentiment strip to the card using 3M foam adhesive for added dimension.
