Gilded Birthday | by Crystal Komara

Hello friends and welcome to October! Wow, how the seasons fly, but things sure are getting pretty with the fall foliage here in New England. This is Design Team member Crystal Komara here today sharing an elegant black and gold birthday card today using the Floral Balloon Layer Set.

I love the large size of these balloons, they really make a statement. By layering the balloons with black, gold and white, it really makes the card seem more elevated and elegant.

    Card details:

The base of this A2 sized card is made from 80 lb. Neenah Solar White Smooth cardstock. Using the Pinpoint Contour Plate, I die cut the background from black cardstock. Next I die cut the balloons using the Floral Balloon Layer Set. I cut one white ballon and then added strips of gold and black cardstock. For the second balloon, I die cut Layer A (the top layer) from gold glitter cardstock, Layer B (the middle layer) from black cardstock and Layer C (the bottom layer) from white cardstock. I adhered all three layers together with a fine-tip liquid glue. I adhere the top gold balloon to the card using 3M foam adhesive for added dimension. The white balloon is adhered directly to the card base, without foam.

For the sentiment, I heat foiled the “happy birthday” in gold foil on white cardstock. This sentiment is from the Sugar Script Sentiments 2 foil plate and coordinating die. I used the coordinating die to cut the sentiment out and adhered it to the card using 3M foam.

Thanks for being here and spending time exploring all that Birch Press Design has to offer for your creative paper craft hobby! Have a wonderfully creative day!

Happy Birthday Bloom | by Crystal Komara

Hello crafty readers! This is Design Team member Crystal Komara on the blog today sharing one of my most recent card creations using the Perky Bloom Contour Layer. This bold and oversized flower has quickly become one of my favorite contour layering dies from Birch Press Design this release.

    Card details:

The base of this A2 sized card is made from 80 lb. Neenah Solar White Smooth cardstock. I dry embossed a 5 1/4″ x 4″ sheet of black cardstock using the Blooming 3D embossing folder from Memory Box Company (a sister company of Birch Press Design). This is one of my favorite embossing folders. I adhered the black embossed cardstock directly to the card base.

To create the flower, I used light pink, dark pink and yellow cardstock. I die cut the Perky Bloom Contour Layer multiple times from each of these colors of cardstock and then kept layering them to see which color combination I liked best. The good news was I die cut so many colors that I have plenty of other pieces leftover to make more cards! When I was satisfied with the flower, I adhered the flower to the card using 3M foam adhesive for added dimension.

For the leaves, I used the Wiegala Leaf Contour Layers. I die cut the leaves from two different shades of green cardstock and layered the two together using a fine-tip liquid glue. Lastly I heat foiled the sentiment using the Sugar Script Sentiments 2. I used the ‘happy birthday” sentiment from this set. I heat foiled white cardstock in gold foil. Then I used the coordinating die cut to cut the sentiment out. I adhered the sentiment to the card and then added a couple clear rhinestones to resemble watery dew drops.

I hope you have enjoyed this beautiful birthday card. Thanks for visiting and have a wonderfully creative day!

Make a Wish | by Crystal Komara

Hello crafty readers! This is Design Team member Crystal Komara here with you today and I’m really excited to share my card with you because it’s one of my favorite color palettes! First, let’s take a look at the inspiration for today’s birthday card:

Yes! My color inspiration came from a Pinterest photo from an architectural website. Kind of wild, right? What I liked about this photo was that these are colors I would not normally have considered ever putting together, and yet they work beautifully! Now, while I don’t want these colors in MY house (hello, neutrals girl here!) I found they worked well for a card.

    Card details:

The base of this A2 sized card is made from 80 lb. Neenah Solar White Smooth. I also cut a 5 1/4″ x 4″ piece of the same white cardstock to be used as the first base layer. Using all three layers (A, B, and C) of the Floral Balloon Layer Set, I die cut four of every balloon in teal green, min green, light pink, gold glitter and magenta pink cardstock. (I really didn’t know how many balloon pieces I would need, so this gave me plenty to mix and match!) I really could have made two cards with all the pieces I had leftover.

I then began to play around and see what colors I liked layered over each other. I also toyed around with the balloon placement on the card. There was no real method to my madness, I simply kept rearranging until I found a layout that was pleasing to my eye.

Using the Make a Wish Sugar Script word die, I cut the thicker shadow portion from darker pink cardstock and the thinner top portion from white cardstock. I layered the two together with a fine tip liquid glue and then used 3M foam adhesive behind to sentiment to adhere it to the card with added dimension.

I hope today’s post inspires YOU to find inspiration from the world around you! Thanks for visiting and have a wonderfully creative day!

    Gift Tag Galore

A problem that I used to run into every birthday, wedding, or graduation party is wrapping up the gift, tying the perfect bow, and then realizing I have no place to write who it’s from!

At this point, since I am a procrastinator and probably have to leave for the party, I need to write my to and from straight on the gift!

Not only does that look tacky, but also makes it hard to find for the person with the gift! As of now, those days are behind me! Birch Press currently offers an array of gift tags such as printed tags with colorful designs, wood tags to add a natural look to your present, laser tags with cut outs to let the wrapping paper add a feel to the tag, chalkboard tags perfect for a that grandchild’s birthday party, and holiday tags for those major festivities like Christmas!

    Card Worthy

Some may disagree, but I’m pretty confident that a majority of you out there think that this is the best time of the year. Yes, it’s extremely cold, but that’s not enough to get you down. There’s a special feeling that fills the air around this time. Too cheesy? Ok. But I do love December!

You don’t even have to wait until Christmas, or Hanukkah to get into the spirit either. It’s starts earlier than that with cards! Yes, those special cards you recieve from Aunt Joy telling you how just perfect her year has been. Or cousin John, who you haven’t spoken to in years, letting you know how good hunting season went.

I love to set them in a special place in the house like my mantle just so that I can keep getting excited for the holiday! At some point though, I get way too many cards and they don’t all fit on my mantle anymore! But, I don’t want to move any away because they’re all so pretty and equally important!

That’s when I bring out my card holders! This way, all cards get to stay on the mantle and be seen equally! Here at Birch Press we have two classic card stands that’ll work in any home. With their classic metal look, the card holders will not clash with any home decor!

Don’t let any card you receive on those holidays be hidden because you don’t have enough space! Instead, let every card be admired in your home with our classic card holders.

    Age Appropriate Birthday Wishes

Whenever its someones birthday, you always give them the classic ‘happy birthday’. So you’d think that for birthday parties, you just need a card that says ‘Happy Birthday’ and that’s it, you’re done shopping! Wrong.

With a Birthday card, depending on their age, you don’t want to make them feel too young if they’re a child who just hit their ‘tweens’ and you don’t want to make them feel too old if they’re just turning 60 but still has a young spirit!

    image

Here at Birch Press, we have just the birthday card to fit a range of ages! In our letter press section, we have cards that can fit to a young child with birthday banners, a tween with cake stand scenes and classic birthday quotes like ‘wishing you a happy birthday and many more’, and for an older age range we have beautiful blooming flowers and city landscapes!

Let Birch Press help you match the perfect card with that special person growing a year older!
