Ocean Zine Art | Sandhya Iyer

Hello again, crafty friends! Sandhya here with another ocean-themed zine page featuring the stunning new dies from Birch Press Design’s latest release. This time, I’m spotlighting the elegant Block Print Proud Seahorse paired with the graceful Sea Kelp and Mini Fish dies.

For this zine page, I wanted to create an underwater scene that feels both magical and empowering—something that invites you to pause and take in all the details.

To start, I worked on a tag and created a textured background using layers of ink blending and splatter with Distress Oxides in aqua, teal, and sea green. I used a stencil to lift away some ink for wave-like motion.

The seahorse is cut from watercolor cardstock—inked with Distress Oxide inks. I love how the bold lines of the die really stand out against the soft ocean tones. I nestled the seahorse into a cluster leafy die cuts from the Sea Kelp and Mini Fish set.

I then added my “wild at heart” sentiment and a generous splattering of white paint. I also added some flatback gems for added glam.

I then created a pocket by sewing some vellum over pattern paper and adhered it to my zine page. This was perfect to insert my little tag.

This zine page is one of my favorite ways to celebrate the ocean theme—it’s small, detailed, and full of heart. I hope this inspires you to experiment with mixed media and dive deep into your stash of dies!

Thanks for stopping by! I’ll be back soon with more ocean-inspired creations.

    Crafting with joy,
    Sandhya

Block Print Passion Fruit Flower Butterflies | by Crystal Komara

Hello friends and happy Tuesday! Welcome back to another post with Design Team member Crystal Komara. Today I have gotten a little extra creative and turned the new Block Print Passion Fruit Flower dies into butterflies. It sort of happened by serendipity – or a fortunate accident, but I’m not mad!

The base of this A2 sized card is made from 110 lb. Neenah Solar White smooth cardstock. This is my go-to cardstock for all my card bases because it is nice and sturdy. First, to create the background I cut a 5 1/4″ x 4″ piece of lilac purple paper and adhered it directly to the white card base.

Using Plate B of the Flora Plate Layer Set, I cut a piece of white cardstock and adhered this directly over the lilac purple cardstock to create visual interest.

Now for the flower/butterflies: Using the Block Print Passion Fruit Flower dies, I create flowers from various colors of purple cardstock (with green stamens. I create a total of four flours and then I accidentally dropped two of them on the flower and they kind of fell into a butterfly shape and I thought hmmmm. . . . if I cut off the stems and glue them together, they DO look like butterflies, so I went with it!

I adhered two of the flowers together to create a butterfly and then I added a second set to the front of the card.

Lastly I added a tab foil sentiment from Memory Box Company (a sister company of Birch Press Design) and voila – a butterfly card made from flowers!

Thanks for visiting and have a wonderfully creative day!

Sending Warm Wishes | by Crystal Komara

Hello friends and happy Tuesday! This is Design Team member Crystal Komara here with you today sharing a monochromatic pink card using a mixture of old and new products from Birch Press Design.

First, for this card, we’ll use the following products:

    1. Honeycomb Plate
    2. Perky Bloom Contour Layers Dies
    3. Blush 6″ x 6″ paper pack

The base of this A2 sized card is made from 110 lb. Neenah Solar White Smooth cardstock. In the past I used to use 80 lb. Neenah Solar White cardstock, but I have now switched to a heavier card base and I love it! It really holds up well. Using the Honeycomb Plate, I die cut the background from a bright pink cardstock and adhered it directly to the white card base.

Using the Perky Blooms Contour Layers die, I die cut the flowers from three different colored pink cardstock and then adhered them together with a fine-tip liquid glue. Once the three flowers were completed and adhered together, I splattered them with white acrylic paint. Once dry, I adhered the flowers to the card with 3M foam adhesive for added dimension.

Lastly, I added a black foil tab sentiment from sister company, Memory Box.

Thanks for visiting and have a wonderfully creative day!

Forever Grateful | by Crystal Komara

Hello crafty friends! This is Design Team member Crystal Komara here with you today sharing the first of a few fall themed pumpkin cards that I have made featuring the Adornment Pumpkin Set.

The Adornment Pumpkin Layer Set is one of my go-to products for fall cards. I love the large size of the layering pumpkin. Plus, it comes together easily with only two dies – a solid inside layer and a thin outline layer. For this card, I combined it with a variety of other products from Birch Press Design to include:

~Phlox Blooms and Leaves Contour Layers

    ~Tiny Tuft Flowers and Leaves

    Card details:

There is a lot to this card, so let’s break it down:

    1. To create the pumpkin, using the Adornment Pumpkin die, I die cut the large solid pumpkin from the 6″ x 6″ Gladiola paper pack from Memory Box Company. I die cut the outline layer from white cardstock. I adhered the two together with a fine tip liquid glue.
    2. Using the Phlox Blooms and Leaves contour layer set, I die cut a bunch of flowers from a mustard orange and rust colored cardstock. I also cut the inside of the flowers from chocolate brown cardstock and the center of of the flowers from gold glitter cardstock. For each flower, I layered the three colors togethers with a fine-tip liquid glue.
    3. Next I simply die cut a bunch of orange, yellow, mustard, gold and brown leaves from the Tiny Tufts Flowers and Leaves contour die and tucked them in and around the pumpkin.
    4. I splattered gold paint all over the card for some “distressing” or a “mixed media” look.
    5. Lastly, I stamped the sentiment “forever grateful” using the Brush Sentiment stamp set. I stamped the sentiment in Versamark ink and heat embossed it with white embossing powder. I used an oval punch to punch the sentiment out and adhered it to the card using foam adhesive for added dimension.

I know at first glance that a lot of these intricate layered cards can seem intimating, but all it really entails is a LOT of die cutting. My little tip* – I don’t even count or measure as I’m die cutting, I just keep cutting until it seems like I have a lot. Any extra pieces can be used on the inside or saved for another card!

Thanks for visiting and have a wonderfully creative day!

    It’s Fall, Ya’ll | by April Antonio

Hello friends! Design Team member April here today sharing a card in honor of the first day of Fall. Time to light some cozy candles, grab a warm blanket, and sink into a fun afternoon of crafting.

Here’s how I pulled this card together:

I used layer A and B from the Forest Canopy Layer set and ink blended on the leaves and branches with green and brown inks. I glued both layers together, and then used a tape runner to attach them to an A2 card front.

I then used a sheet of orange cardstock from the Sunny Orange cardstock pack to cut the background of the Adornment Pumpkin die set. I cut this out twice and used foam tape to glue the two pieces together.

I cut the outline part from a piece of orange cardstock from the Glitzy Glitter pad. I finished off the pumpkin by ink blending the stem and leaves and adding them to the top.

For my sentiment I used the Big Hugs Sugar Script die, cutting it out three times and ink blending brown onto the layers, and gluing them together.

Lastly, I cut out all the dies from the Evening Moths die set from white cardstock.

Plaid Adornment Pumpkin | by Crystal Komara

Hello fall friends! This is Design Team member Crystal Komara here to inspire you today! I have been sharing a lot of detailed intricate die cut cards lately, so today I thought I would keep my card a little more simple. I know that those intricate contour dies can be intimidating to some (as they were to me at first), but Birch Press Design makes so many gorgeous products, that you can cater the level of detail to your own personal taste.

    Card details:

The base of this A2 sized card is made from 80 lb. Neenah Solar White smooth cardstock. I cut a 5 1/4 x 4″ piece of Kraft cardstock and adhered it directly to the card base. Then, using Layer Plate B of the Flora Plate Layer Set, I die cut that from Kraft cardstock and adhered it directly to the previous Kraft layer (so it’s kind of see through).

I die cut the base of Adornment Pumpkin from plaid cardstock from the Gladiola paper pack by Memory Box Company (a sister company of Birch Press Design). I LOVE their paper packs, they are all stunning. I cut the outline of the Adornment pumpkin from white cardstock. I layered the two together using a fine-tip liquid glue before adhering the pumpkin to the card with 3M foam adhesive for dimension.

I die cut a bunch of leaves using the Tiny Tufts Leaves and Flowers contour set. I die cut these leaves in both a dark brown and gold glitter cardstock. I adhered the leaves to the top stem of the pumpkin. Lastly, I stamped the sentiment “forever grateful” from the Brush Sentiment clear stamp set. I stamped the sentiment in Versamark ink on dark brown cardstock and heat embossed the sentiment with white embossing powder. I then used an oval punch to punch out the sentiment. I adhered the sentiment to the pumpkin using 3M foam adhesive.

Fall is one of my favorite seasons to make cards for. I promise you will be seeing lots more ways to use this Adornment Pumpkin in the very near future!

Thanks for visiting and have a wonderfully creative day!

Black & White Garden | by Crystal Komara

Hello friends! I’m so excited that fall is finally here in New England, it’s my favorite time of the year! This is Design Team member Crystal Komara here today to inspire you with with a black and white garden of thanks!

You know when you have an idea in your head and then when it times to execute the plan, you don’t always have the desired result? Well, this card came out exactly as I envisioned and I was so happy with it that I can’t wait to create similar cards in other colors.

    Card details:

The base of this A2 sized card is made from 80 lb. Neenah Solar White Smooth cardstock. I cut a 5 1/4x ” x 4″ piece of Kraft cardstock and adhered it directly to the card base. Then I went to work die cutting a bunch of flowers using the Phlox Blooms and Leaves Contour Layers. I die cut all the flower bases from white cardstock and all the 2nd layer of the flowers from black cardstock. I die cut the centers from gold glitter cardstock. I also die cut all the leaves in black cardstock.

First, I adhered the leaves to the card and then I added the flowers as I deemed visually appealing. Lastly, I left enough space to add the sentiment. The sentiment strips are actually heavy cardboard foiled tabs from Memory Box Co. (a sister company to Birch Press Design). You can find the Thank You Foiled Greetings Tabs here.

I think a black and white card is so elegant. If you add a touch of gold glitter or foil, it even ups the WOW factor. This card would work really well as a wedding or sympathy card too.

Thanks for visiting and have a wonderfully creative day!

  • Floral Wishes | by Sandhya Iyer

Floral Wishes | by Sandhya Iyer

Hello, friends! Design Team member, Sandhya Iyer here with a contrast-filled floral card to send best wishes to loved ones. I used the Floral Arch Contour Layers, Fuddled Leaf Branch Contour Layers, Pinpoint Radial Plate and Best Wishes Vintage sentiment dies for my project today.

I started by die-cutting the layers for the floral arch, leaf branch and the sentiment out of watercolor cardstock. Next, I pulled out dye inks in shades of pinks and inked up the floral layers and the letters in the sentiment. I chose a minty cool green for the stems and leaves.

Next, I die-cut black cardstock using the Pinpoint Radial Plate to create a background panel for my card. I bunched the die-cut foliage and tied a bow with jute twine.

Next, I adhered the die-cut floral and leaf bundle and the sentiment to my black panel. Finally, I finished off with a sprinkling of iridescent pink sequins.

This brings us to the end of today’s post. Thank you so much for stopping by and I hope you have fun crafting today!
