    Vibrant and Perky Bloom | by Crystal Komara

    Hello friends! Today I have a very bold and vibrant card to share with you using the new Perky Bloom Contour dies. I love mixing the Birch Press Design products with alcohol inks and I have frequently done so in the past. For other unique alcohol ink ideas, please check out my posts here, here and here. And, today, I have another one to add to my ever growing list!

    Card details:

    The base of this A2 sized card is made from 80 lb. Neenah Solar White Smooth cardstock. For the background of this card, I used a pre-created piece of alcohol ink art that I keep stored in a bin for easy pull-out and use to create “quick cards” with. This background was mostly a gold honey color, but I did splatter it with black ink for extra interest.

    I used the new Perky Bloom Layering dies to create the two flowers. I cut each layer of the die from pink, peach and yellow cardstock and then continued to layer them together until I had a color combination that appealed to my eye and seemingly worked with the busy background and well! I adhered the flowers to the card using 3M foam adhesive for added dimension.

    Lastly, I added one of the new foil greeting black tabs from Memory Box Company (a sister company to Birch Press Design). These new foiled tabs are beautifully made and are made of a nice thick chipboard. What a quick way to add an elegant sentiment!

    Hello friends and happy April! I feel like the days are finally getting warmer and we’re seeing the sun more here in New England. Spring has officially arrived! This is DT member Crystal Komara and I’m sharing a card using multiple products from Birch Press Design to include the Eloquent Butterfly and Field of Blooms Layering Dies.

    Card details:

    The base of this A2 sized card is made from 80 lb. Neenah Solar White Smooth cardstock. This is my go-to cardstock for e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g. I use it in all aspects of card making from stamping, die cutting, ink blending and Copic coloring. To create the background of this card, I used the Field of Blooms Layering die set. I die cut Layer A (the top layer) from white cardstock, Layer B (the leaves layer) from mint green cardstock, Layer C (the tulip layer) from dark pink cardstock and then put a sheet of light pink cardstock behind the entire die to create a second layer of tulips. Then I cut the background down from a full sheet into one measuring 4 1/4″ x 3 1/2.

    I adhere the background to the lower 1/3 of the card leaving room for the “hello” at the top of the card. For the hello I used the Jumbo Lingo word die. I die cut the bottom shadow layer from dark pink cardstock and the top layer from white cardstock. I adhere both layers together with a fine tip liquid adhesive. I then adhered the sentiment to the top of the card.

    To create the butterfly I die cut Layer A (the top layer) from the Eloquent Butterfly layering dies. Then I took a pre-created piece of alcohol ink art and used Layer C to die cut the butterfly shape out. I adhered the alcohol ink background behind Layer A. I adhered the butterfly to the card using 3M foam for added dimension.

    Hello, friends! This is Design Team member Sandhya Iyer and today I am sharing a spring-themed birthday card where I mix up a bunch of fun products. The star of the show is the foiled sentiment from the Sugar Script Sentiments 2 hot foiled plate and die set. I also used the Wiegela Leaf Contour Layers Die Set and the Gentle Flower and Leaves Contour Layers for the flowers and leaves.

    I started by using Distress Mica Stain and Distress Spray stains in different shades of green to create a few ink-smooshed panels. Then, I used the Wiegela Leaf die to cut out several leaves to build my wreath. Next, I used Saltwater Taffy Distress Oxide to ink blend an ombre background. I traced a circle on this panel and adhered the leaves to form a wreath.

    Next, I grabbed the Sunrise and Blush solid core cardstock packs and die cut a couple of flowers using the Gentle Flower die set. I colored in the center with a brown copic marker for additional contrast. I also kept the extra pieces of colorful centers to tuck under the leaves. I used gold foil and my Glimmer machine to create my birthday sentiment and added it to the center of the wreath using some foam tape.

    Finally, tucked in the flowers and little centres that look like buds/berries. I attached the completed panel to a white card base and finished with a few clear drop embellishments.     Hello friends! This is DT member Crystal Komara here with you today sharing more Easter inspiration using the beautiful new Floral Cross Layer Set. I have been enjoying playing around with these new dies and I can’t wait to see what my other team members create using it as well.

    Card details:

    The base of this A2 sized card is made from 80 lb. Neenah Solar White Smooth cardstock. I cut Layer A from the Flora Plate Layering Set using the same white cardstock and this became the first layer of the card adding some texture and design to the background. I die cut Layer A of the Floral Cross from white cardstock and Layer C (the bottom layer) from gold glitter cardstock. I layered the two together with a fine-tip liquid adhesive and then I adhered the cross to the card using 3M foam adhesive for added dimension.

    For the large flower I used the Perky Bloom Contour Layer Set. I die cut this flower from peach, pink and yellow cardstock. I adhere all the layers together and then die cut the stamen from black cardstock. I adhered the flower to the base of the cross and added a couple green vines running up through the cross.

    I am so happy with how this card came out and I am so in love with this elegant multi-layered cross and all its accompanying flowers and vines. I hope you will enjoy it too! Thanks for visiting and have a wonderfully crafty day!

    Mixed Media with Dies and Pattern Paper | Natasha Vacca

    Hello Crafty friends, it is Natasha here and I am excited to be back today! Today I am sharing a gorgeous new die in the Birch Press Collection – Wiegela Leaf Contour Layers! I paired this with a few other favorites for a fun mixed media style card! So let’s get started!

    I started with the Wiegela Leaf Contour Layers die set. I die cut 2 leaves using the new Greenery Solid Core Cardstock pack! I love these new pads! Once the leaf was die cut, I added Distress Oxide Inks to each layer of the leaf for added texture and color! I used: Pine Needles, Chipped Sapphire, Twisted Citron, & Ground Espresso. Once the inking was completed I added water droplets and picked up the color with a paper towel. Next I added Foundry Wax to sections of the leaf in the color Statue. I also darkened the edges of the leaves with a dye ink in brown. I then adhered these together with liquid glue and set them aside to dry.

    Next I die cut the butterflies using a leftover background I recently made using inks. I die cut 3 butterflies using Simple Butterfly Contour Layers. I added Foundry wax to the antennae as well for added texture. I also inked up the edges of the butterfly and adhered the layers together with liquid glue. I set these aside to work on my background.

    For the background I chose a few pieces of pattern paper from the Anemone Grove paper pad. I trimmed one panel to a bit smaller than an A2 card base. I then used my deckle trimmer on the edges for a worn look. I then tore a couple other pieces and adhered them to the left side of the panel. Next I applied White gesso to the panel in sections using a small paint brush and then a brayer. I apply the gesso in several directions for added texture. Next I added a few pieces of text washi tape on the panel. I then added ink blending to sections using Distress Oxide in Seedless Preserves.

    Next I added splatter to my pattern paper background. I used a combination of black, white, and gold splatters. Once the panel was dry I adhered the pattern paper background to my A2 top folding card base. I then adhered the leaves and butterflies to my card front. I chose a birthday sentiment from the new Greeting Tabs from Memory Box – I love these so much!!!!! I love the black with foil lettering, there are several to choose from!

    Hello! Happy Friday friends! I hope you have great things planned for the weekend ahead. This is Design Team member Crystal Komara and I’m very excited to share today’s card with you in my favorite color – blue! This card uses lots of beautiful products from Birch Press Design including the Rose Bunch Contour Layering Dies, Mixed Berry Contour dies, Just a Note Noted Script Hot Foil plate and Rose Leaves Contour Layers! Continue reading to learn how I created this very detailed card:

    I’m not going to lie, putting the Rose Bunch Contour Layers together is the most cumbersome part of this card and it truly irritated me a little, but the end result – is SO worth it!

    Card details:

    The base of this A2 sized card is made from 80 lb. Neenah Solar White Smooth cardstock. I then adhered a 5 1/4″ x 4″ piece of bold blue cardstock directly to the card base. I then began cutting two sets of the Rose Bunch Contour Layers from three different colored blues cardstocks. (Please see the end of this post where I have pictures of how I die cut these pieces and assembled them). Once the flowers were assembled, I then assembled the leaves using a light green cardstock and a green glitter cardstock. (Again, there are additional photos at the end of this post. )

    I assembled the Mixed Berry Contour dies using gold glitter stems and two different colors of blue cardstock for the berries. This was just a lot of gluing of little tiny pieces!

    I adhered the leaves to the card first and then layered the roses on top. Once everything was situated where I wanted it, I peeled off the backing of the tape and pressed it all firmly into place. I splattered the entire card with a little gold paint. Lastly I heat embossed the sentiment using the Just a Note Noted Script hot foil plate. I used gold foil on white cardstock. I adhered the sentiment to the lower right side of the card using 3M foam adhesive for added dimension.

    Here are the closeup photos of how I die cut the roses and then assembled them:

    Step 1: Cut base from bold blue cardstock

    Hello, friends! This is Design Team member Sandhya Iyer here today and I am sharing a floral notecard. I used the Early Blossom Contour Layers die set to create my watercolored florals. The sentiment is a gorgeous scripted hot foil plate and die set called Just a Note.

    I started by die-cutting the flowers and leaves out of Canson XL watercolor paper. Next, I used Rockwell Magic mineral watercolors to color the die-cut layers.

    I assembled the layers to create my flowers and leaves. Then, I created an ink-smooshed background using Worn Lipstick and Tattered Rose Distress Oxide Inks. Next, I used the foil plate to add the sentiment to a piece of Hammermill heavy cardstock and die-cut it out.

    Finally, I ink-blended using the same oxide ink combo on my card base and assembled the card. I also added gold splatters to add some glamour.

    Hello Crafty Friends! I hope you had a great weekend! I am excited to be up on the blog today sharing a new release from Birch Press Designs with you – the beautiful Early Blossom Contour Layers die set! I love florals and these dies make it so easy to create with! So let’s get started!

    I started by die cutting the florals using Hammermill white card stock. I then ink blended each of the layers using a combination of dye inks. Once all the inking was complete, I adhered each of the layers together using liquid glue.

    Next I started to work on the background tag for my floral die cuts. I started with a pre-made tag then added papers and collage paper to the tag. I used the Anemone Grove Paper pad, as well as collage paper from my stash. I ripped pieces of paper for a distress look, then adhered them with collage medium. I allowed this to dry, then inked up the background using Distress Oxide Inks. I used: Antique Linen, Pumice Stone, Peacocks Feathers, Vintage Photo, Walnut Stain, and Mustard Seed. I layered these on, as well as splattered with water droplets for added texture.

    Next I added Translucent Crackle Paint to sections of the tag, allowed this to dry, then applied Distress Crayons over the top of the crackle paint. I also added some paper glaze to sections for added texture. I then added splatters to the tag using black and gold. I then adhered all the layers together using liquid glue and foam tape. The wood grain paper paper in the center of the tag is from Memory Box and it is in the color cream. I applied ink and sponging to the paper for added texture.

    I chose a pre-made sentiment from my stash and adhered this to my tag as well. I darkened the edges of the tag using Distress Ink in Ground Espresso using a blending tool, as well as additional texture using a sea sponge. The tag was completed with twine for the top, as well as lace and a button.

    Hello crafty friends, It is Natasha and I am excited to be up on the blog with you today! Today’s project combines the beautiful Eloquent Butterfly layered set, paired with beautiful papers from Memory Box! So let’s get started!

    I started by die cutting each layer (A and C) from the Eloquent Butterfly onto white cardstock. Once it was die cut, I added Distress Oxide Ink (Brushed Corduroy and Walnut Stain) to layer A and C. For layer B I die cut the butterfly using the Memory Box Glitzy Glitter pad using a piece of blue glitter paper. Then on layer B I added a couple colors of embossing powder. I do one color at a time, adding layers and not fully covering the butterfly with one color of powder. I also added a bit of embossing powder to layer A to add more interest and texture. I then adhered the butterfly together using liquid glue and set it aside.

    Next I started to work on my tag background using a pre-made tag from my stash. I then chose a few pieces of beautiful pattern paper from the Memory Box Magnolia Grove paper pad. I love these papers, they are so beautiful! I adhered the layers onto my tag, then dry embossed one of the papers using the Memory Box Ringadings embossing folder. Once this was dry embossed I tore the pattern paper to give a distressed look. I then added the same distress oxide inks to the paper. I added a bit more texture by applying an iridescent embossing powder to sections of the dry embossed paper. I then adhred the layer onto my tag,

    Next I added splatters to the tag panel using a brown spray from my stash. I allowed the panel to dry, then distressed the edges using my distress ink pad. I chose a sentiment from my stash and adhered this with foam tape, then adhered the butterfly to the tag using liquid glue.

    I completed the project with a twine at the top of the tag and a few gems from the Christmas Fairy Drops collection!

    Christmas in July with Forest Canopy and Large Cosmos | by Colleen Balija

    Hi there! Today I’ve got a card for you that reminds me of Christmas -only in July! This wasn’t intended to be a Christmas card, but after seeing the finished product, I will definitely be creating similar cards for the holidays using these new products! I’ll be using the new Large Cosmos Contour Layers die and Forest Canopy Layering dies. As usual, I will share the product links at the end of my post!

    I chose to use shades of brown, green, and coral for this card (very similar to the card I shared in my post a couple weeks ago). Step one was to create the background. The Forest Canopy is a layering die set, which Birch Press Designs is known for creating in great detail! I die cut each of the layers using heavy white cardstock. Then I applied shades of green color, going from light to dark, by ink schmooshing to create a variegated, natural look to the leaves. This set comes with berries as well, and I inked those up in shades of coral.

    TIP: To ink schmoosh, apply the ink onto a glass media matt, spray with a bit of water, and then place the card panel directly onto the ink and “schmoosh” around over the ink to apply color to the card panel. Repeat this step until you’ve achieved the desired look that you want. If you notice in the photo below, this technique achieves more depth as opposed to basic ink blending.

    Once the inking was complete, I adhered the layers together and applied them over a card panel that was inked in shades of brown. I am in love with how earthy and beautiful the colors are coming along!

    Next I focused on the Large Cosmos Flower die. Did you know that Birch Press Designs embosses the layers on the flower so that you know exactly where to place each layer? I think that’s genius! They also emboss highlighted areas that add interest and depth to the flowers!

    I die cut each layer of the flower onto white cardstock and then ink blended the layers in shades of coral. Then I went around the edges of the flower and the stamin with gold embossing powder for added shine and interest. I adhered my layeres and placed the Cosmos Flower onto the lower left corner over the Forest Canopy leaves, and then added gold metallic splatters over the entire panel. I finished with a sentiment from the Memory Box Gracious Florals stamp and die set!

    Next time I may change up the color scheme and create a few holiday cards using these new dies! I’ll be sure to share them with you! Thanks for stopping by today!
