Classic Sentimental Wreath | by Crystal Komara

Hello readers! This is Design Team member Crystal Komara here with you today. I know there is a beautiful new release of the hot foils in the shop right now, but I always love to use some of the “oldies but goodies.” Everyone seems to always get caught up in what’s the newest or latest and greatest product, but SOooo many of us haven’t even used what we already own, so that’s what I’ve been working on this month. Today’s card features the beautiful Classic Sentimental Wreath stamp set and coordinating dies.

    Card details:

The base of this A2 sized card is made from 80 lb. Neenah Solar White smooth cardstock. This is my go-to white cardstock for e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g. On a 5 1/4″ x 4″ piece of white cardstock, I embossed it using the Blooming 3D embossing folder from Memory Box (a sister company to BPD). You guys, this folder is absolutely gorgeous! I cut a scalloped rectangle from white cardstock.

On a piece of lush green cardstock, I stamped the wreath first in pale green ink and then the leaf layers in lime green ink. I used the coordinating die to cut the wreath out. I adhered the wreath to the scalloped rectangle using 3M foam adhesive. I stamped two of the flower sprigs in purple ink and used the die to cut them out as well. I adhered the two floral sprigs to the wreath and then I tied a small bow with lilac ribbon and adhered the bow to the card using a glue dot. I stamped the sentiment “thank for everything” in Memento Tuxedo black ink. This sentiment is also part of the Classic Sentiment Wreath stamp set.

This is one of those cards that I say can be used for every type of occasion. I could easily swap out the sentiment for a sympathy, birthday or get well expression and create a variety of quick and elegant cards.

I hope you have enjoyed the simplicity of today’s card. Thanks for visiting and have a wonderfully creative day!

  • Flora Heart and Eloquent Butterfly Layering Die Sets! | By Desiree Kuemmerle

Flora Heart and Eloquent Butterfly Layering Die Sets! | By Desiree Kuemmerle

    Hello Everyone and Welcome Back!

We do not have to limit ourselves to just one die set for the front of our cards! Today I am going to show you how we can combine two popular layering die sets for the focal point on our card ready for any occasion!

I always like to get all my die cutting out of the way and have them ready for when I start to create my card! Once the die cutting is done let’s get them layered using our liquid adhesive to ensure a strong bond!

I then used the pinpoint radial plate die for my background and added a couple of colors to make the pinpoint design show even more to add texture!

I positioned the heart in the center of the radial points and then layered the butterfly just below adding small double sided foam squares to keep it level.

We don’t always have to add a sentiment to our cards, this way when any occasion pops up, we are ready to go!

Hearts and Butterflies always need a little bling, so I added a few gems for that sparkle!

    Hope you enjoyed today’s project!

Make sure you stay tuned for more wonderful projects coming soon!

  • Spring Peony and Hot Foil Hello

Spring Peony and Hot Foil Hello

Hello crafty friends! I am excited to be back on the blog today to share a project using some of the newly released supplies.

For today’s project I decided to use the new Prime Peony die set. It creates a beautifully, realistic looking peony. The set comes with both large and small peony pieces, including the petals, stamen (center part) and stem/leaves. I started by cutting the large peony die from white cardstock multiple times.

I then used detail blending brushes and Distress Oxide inks to quickly ink blend each piece as I desired, using the booklet that comes with the die set as a guide.

After I ink blended each piece, I assembled the flowers assembly line style. I did leave off the dimension on the leaves, and will save those small pieces for a future project. I think my favorite part of making this card was when I assembled the flowers because each additional layer makes them look more and more realistic.

Next I dry embossed Layer C from the Flora Plate Layer set from heavy weight cardstock. To dry emboss I used my typical die cut plates, but placed an embossing mat underneath the die so it would not fully cut into paper.

I glued the panel down to an A2 white card base, and arranged three of the assembled flowers into the middle of the card, making sure the stems gathered together at the bottom.

I then adhered the hello created using the NEW Sugar Script hot foil die. I popped this up with foam tape to give it similar dimension to the flowers.

My final touch was to add a few of the clear Fair Drops across the card in no particular order.

The new hot foil sentiment together with the 3D looking flowers adds such beautiful dimension to the card. I really like how it came together and looks simple yet detailed at the same time.

Thank you for joining me today and I hope this post has inspired you not only check out the new Birch Press hot foil designs, but to go craft some more!

  • Butterfly Basics | by Crystal Komara

Butterfly Basics | by Crystal Komara

Hello Birch Press Design readers! This is Design Team member Crystal Komara here with you today sharing a slimline card made using the Butterfly Basics die set. I have owned this beautiful die set for a while and for as much as I love butterflies, I can’t believe I hadn’t used it yet! So, while there is a whole new gorgeous release of products (to include foils!) from Birch Press Design, today I’m going back to the (butterfly) basics.

    Card details:

The base of this slimline card is made from 80 lb. Neenah Solar White smooth cardstock. This slimline card measures 8 1/2′ x 3 1/2′ and will fit inside a regular #10 business sized envelope and, as such, requires no additional postage. I used a slimline die to create the first matted background.

Using the Butterfly Basics die, I cut the large open base frame from solid cardstock. I used four primary colors (pink, blue, yellow and green). I used the following pads of cardstock:

    Lush Green

    Fresh Aqua

    Berry Red

    Sunny Orange

I die cut the middle portion of the butterfly from glitter cardstock. I used the Glitzy Glitter 6 x 6″ pad.

I adhered the butterfly basic together with LineCo ph neutral bookbinding glue. This is my favorite liquid adhesive and it works well when holding glitter cardstock to other paper. I die cut the butterfly bodies from black cardstock. After adhering all the individual butterflies together, I adhered them to the card using 3M foam adhesive for added dimension.

I really like the bold and bright colors of these butterflies. Due to their slightly larger dimension size, I felt like putting them on a slimline card would showcase more colors. I hope you like today’s fun card! Thank you for visiting and have a wonderfully creative day!

  • Hot Foiled Hugs | By Allison Frazier

Hot Foiled Hugs | By Allison Frazier

Hello, Everyone! Look who has hot foil plates now! We are very excited to be able to show off these gorgeous plates and how hot foiling can complement the rest of the beautiful Birch Press Design products.

Not only are there sugar script hot plates, but one of my favorite background dies is now available as a hot foil plate, too. And that is what I started this card with. I took a piece of smooth white card stock and hot foiled the String Art Frame plate with copper foil. This foil looks gold in the pictures, but that’s the wonderful thing about foil – it changes color and luminosity as the light hits it. The hot foiled image came out crisp and beautiful on the first try, so I set that aside.

Next, I foiled the hugs hot foil plate with the same copper foil onto the same white card stock. I cut it out with the matching die that comes with the plate. It came out gorgeous! The hugs sugar script die has always been one of the most used sentiments in my stash, and I know that this hugs hot foil plate will get just as much use.

To ground my sentiment in the center of the string art frame, I cut two circles from yellow and orange card stock. On the smaller yellow circle, I stamped a partial sentiment from the Kind Hearts stamp set. The full sentiment is “Sending you sunshine, laughter & hugs.” In order to stamp just the “Sending you,” I masked off the rest of the stamp with washi tape, inked the stamp with VersaMark ink, removed the washi tape, and then stamped it onto the yellow circle. I then heat embossed it with white embossing powder. I assembled the two circles together, glued the hugs sentiment below the stamped sentiment, and adhered it onto my foiled panel. I then adhered the panel onto a hot pink A2 card base.

To embellish the card, I die cut three butterflies using the Simple Butterfly Contour Layers die set. I cut the larger layers from vellum and the top layers from white card stock. The bodies of the butterflies were actually cut from the same copper hot foil that I used on the rest of the card. If you have a solid hot foil plate in your stash, you can easily create solid foiled pieces of card stock. As a final embellishment, I added colorful fairy jewels to the butterfly bodies.

In this last photo, you can see the copper color of that foil. Again, it just depends on the lighting – the foil gives the card such a dynamic feel. I hope you’re all as excited as we are about these new hot foil plates. Thank you so much for joining us today. I hope this card brings a smile to your face!

    Wishing you a crafty day,
    Allison

  • Tropical Hibiscus | By Natasha Vacca

Hello Crafty Friends! It is Natasha here and I am super excited to be back today! Birch Press Design has an amazing new release and I couldn’t wait to create!!! For today’s card I am using 2 dies from the new release – Tropical Hibiscus Contour Layers, as well as the new Hello Sugar Script foiling die! So let’s get started!

I started today’s card with the Tropical Hibiscus Contour Layers die set and 3 paper pads from Memory Box. I love this card stock, as each paper pad has coordinating colors! They truly do all the work for you!! I used the following 3 paper pads: Berry Red, Sunny Orange, and Lush Green. I die cut each layer of the Hibiscus bloom. I chose 3 shades of pink, ranging from light to dark and a yellow for the center. I then chose 2 shades of green. Once everything was die cut, I added ink blending to each layer of the die cuts. I love the added dimension and texture this provides! Once everything was ink blended, I spritzed some water on the layers and once dried adhered them together with liquid glue.

Next I set the flowers and leaves aside and created a fun and colorful background. I wanted to create a background that gave these blooms a summery feel. I created the background on water color card stock using pigment powders. I added several layers of color and once I was happy with the color, I allowed it to dry.

To complete my card I chose the new Hello Sugar Script hot foil plate and die set! I LOVE the sugar script dies and the added foil plate is so much fun and truly beautiful! I foiled the hello using a matte gold foil, then die cut the word using the coordinating die set. I then die cut several more layers on plain white card stock for added dimension. Next I adhered the layers together using liquid glue.

To complete my card I adhered my watercolor background onto an A2 card base. I then chose the arrangement for the flowers and leaves. I adhered these using a combination of liquid glue and foam tape. I adhered the Hello sentiment using foam tape. To complete the card I added a few clear Fairy Drops! I had a lot of fun today and I hope you enjoyed it too!

I will be back soon! Crafty Hugs,

  • Celebrating Birthday Cards! | By Desiree Kuemmerle

Celebrating Birthday Cards! | By Desiree Kuemmerle

    Hello Everyone and Welcome Back!

We love to use our Pattern Papers as our background for our card and sometimes we struggle making sure our focal point stands out as well!

Today I am going to show we can accomplish this! By choosing colors in a different hue of the colors in our background our focal points are sure to stand out and celebrate!

We usually start out with our die cutting, for this project lets look at our background papers and choose out colors for our die cuts! Once we have our colors chosen we can start by getting our die cutting and layering out of the way.

Our cards are set onto a slimline panel with a neutral mat for our frame. The frame mats were cut to 4 in x 9 in and we do not need to cut our papers from the memory box Slimline pattern paper pad.

Once set we can start having fun playing with our set up using our focal points and our sentiments! To help have our balloons stand out I chose a back sentiment set on a vellum background!

With a little bling with gems on our balloons, the celebration can start!

    Hope you enjoyed today’s project!

Make sure you stay tuned for more wonderful projects coming soon!

  • Summer Birthday Blooms | by Toni M Maddox

Summer Birthday Blooms | by Toni M Maddox

Hello, Birch Press fans! Toni here with you today sharing a rather summery birthday card.

I started the card by cutting the Linear Triangle from a sturdy white cardstock. I then cut out the Flora Plate Layer B out of a piece of Ocean Blue paper.

I adhered the Flora layer onto the card front, having discarded the bits not covered by the Linear Triangle.

I cut out the the Pimpernel Contour Layers from a piece of Berry Red 6×6 paper. I used Distress Oxide Aged Mahogany to shade the centers.

I cut the stamens out of white then colored them yellow with Copics Y02, Y15 and Y35.

The flowers remind me of clematis so I cut the base layer of the Fuddled Leaf Branches out of Lush Green 6×6 paper, and wove them up and through the Linear Triangle for a climbing effect.

I cut the Make a Wish Sugar Script out of black and white cardstock, nestling it in among the blooms.

I hope you enjoyed today’s card and have a great rest of your week!

  • Foiled Dazzler | By Seeka

    Foiled Dazzler | By Seeka

Hi there and welcome! Seeka here and today I’m sharing a card featuring a background made by foiling the Dazzle Layer A cover plate. Foiling with dies is a wonderful way to stretch your supplies!

I started by prepping my foiling machine. I centered the Dazzle Layer A die over a 4.25″ x 5.5″ panel of plum cardstock and then flipped the two upside down, together, and placed them onto the heating platform. I used a piece of Post-it Tape to tape the cardstock panel down at one end, creating a hinge, and then I swung the panel up and placed a piece of gold foil over the die, shiny side down. I replaced the plum cardstock panel and then followed the instructions for my foiling machine to foil the panel. Below is an example of the order and orientation of the die, foil, and ink-blended panel on the heating plate (when I went to actually foil, I aligned all these pieces, as described above).

With the foiling done, I started on the sentiment. I die cut the detail layer of the Big Hello Sugar Script die set from gold cardstock and the shadow layer from the same plum cardstock as the background. I glued the two together and then used foam tape to adhere the sentiment to the background. I also added a smaller sentiment from my stash. To finish, I adhered the card front to a card base.

Thank you so much for visiting!

  • Layered Floral Star | By Allison Frazier

Layered Floral Star | By Allison Frazier

Hello again, Friends! Today I am sharing this gorgeous layered floral star card using one of my favorite color combinations. There is just something about orange and turquoise together, right? It has to be one of the more striking complementary color combos.

I love creating texture in the background of my cards, even if it’s not with dies. For this card, I created texture by stamping and embossing the large stamp from the Christmas Ornament and Labels set. I used a textured turquoise embossing powder – the texture gives it a more muted and imperfect look. I cut the stamped panel down to 4″ x 5.25″ and mounted it to a dark teal A2 card base.

I die cut each of the three layers from the Floral Star Layer Set, using orange paper for Layer C, dark teal for Layer B, and white for Layer A. I then traced one of the negative spaces from those die cuts onto a turquoise piece of paper and cut it with my scissors to form a solid back. I adhered the layers together with liquid glue and then adhered the entire element to the embossed panel, making sure to cover the ornament shape in the stamped image.

Next, I die cut the “friend” shadow twice from white card stock, adhering the layers together. I die cut the friend word twice from white card stock and once from orange card stock, layered those together and adhered to the shadow. Then I placed the finished word into the middle of the floral star. The sub-sentiment is from my stash – I stamped it on the same dark teal card stock and white heat embossed it.

This card is the perfect example of why I fell in love with Birch Press Design when I first started making cards several years ago. The layering dies and the font in their sugar script dies will always stay fresh. Fresh! Maybe that’s the word that comes to mind when I see this color combination.

Thank you so much for joining us today. I hope this card brings a smile to your face.

    Wishing you a crafty day,
    Allison
