    Spring Peony and Hot Foil Hello

    Hello crafty friends! I am excited to be back on the blog today to share a project using some of the newly released supplies.

    For today’s project I decided to use the new Prime Peony die set. It creates a beautifully, realistic looking peony. The set comes with both large and small peony pieces, including the petals, stamen (center part) and stem/leaves. I started by cutting the large peony die from white cardstock multiple times.

    I then used detail blending brushes and Distress Oxide inks to quickly ink blend each piece as I desired, using the booklet that comes with the die set as a guide.

    After I ink blended each piece, I assembled the flowers assembly line style. I did leave off the dimension on the leaves, and will save those small pieces for a future project. I think my favorite part of making this card was when I assembled the flowers because each additional layer makes them look more and more realistic.

    Next I dry embossed Layer C from the Flora Plate Layer set from heavy weight cardstock. To dry emboss I used my typical die cut plates, but placed an embossing mat underneath the die so it would not fully cut into paper.

    I glued the panel down to an A2 white card base, and arranged three of the assembled flowers into the middle of the card, making sure the stems gathered together at the bottom.

    I then adhered the hello created using the NEW Sugar Script hot foil die. I popped this up with foam tape to give it similar dimension to the flowers.

    My final touch was to add a few of the clear Fair Drops across the card in no particular order.

    The new hot foil sentiment together with the 3D looking flowers adds such beautiful dimension to the card. I really like how it came together and looks simple yet detailed at the same time.

    Hello, Birch Press fans! Toni here with you today sharing a rather summery birthday card.

    I started the card by cutting the Linear Triangle from a sturdy white cardstock. I then cut out the Flora Plate Layer B out of a piece of Ocean Blue paper.

    I adhered the Flora layer onto the card front, having discarded the bits not covered by the Linear Triangle.

    I cut out the the Pimpernel Contour Layers from a piece of Berry Red 6×6 paper. I used Distress Oxide Aged Mahogany to shade the centers.

    I cut the stamens out of white then colored them yellow with Copics Y02, Y15 and Y35.

    The flowers remind me of clematis so I cut the base layer of the Fuddled Leaf Branches out of Lush Green 6×6 paper, and wove them up and through the Linear Triangle for a climbing effect.

    I cut the Make a Wish Sugar Script out of black and white cardstock, nestling it in among the blooms.

    Hello, everyone! Toni here with you today sharing a card that turned out amazing but was a lot more time-consuming than I had anticipated. Of course, it’s after the fact that I think of ways to make it easier!

    I wanted to use one of the fabulous BPD mandalas, Arista in this case, over the entire card BUT without adding the bulkiness of layering each mandala on top of the other. This meant I needed to cut the mandalas so they could nest.

    I worked up each mandala first using a combination of foil, Memory Box Pastel Glitter Cardstock and Memory Box Lush Green, Vibrant Violet, and Ocean Blue 6×6 Cardstock. Once I had my layout planned-ish, I adhere first the blue one to my card base followed by the others, diecutting with a circle die from my stash and/or fussy cutting them to nest into each other.

    I could have made it a lot easier on myself doing this with the first layer (foil) to figure out the nesting cuts then once that was done, I could have adhered the other layers down and trimmed away the excess quite easily. Ah, well, lesson so so learned!

    I finished up the card by adding the Sugar Script Big Hugs and the Happy Lingo sentiment stamped in Versafine Clair Twilight. A LOT of work but well worth it!

    Hello and welcome! Seeka here and today and I’m sharing a foiled card that features a layer from the Viola Plate layer set. Foiling is a great way to get extra mileage out of your dies!

    To start, I created a background by using foam blending tools to blend Shaded Lilac, Wilter Violet, and Seedless Preserves Distress Oxide inks onto a 4.25″ x 5.5″ panel of Bristol Smooth cardstock.

    Next, I prepped my foiling machine. Holding the Viola Layer A die and the ink-blended panel in my hands, I centered the die over the panel and then flipped the two upside down, together, and placed it onto the heating platform. Taking care not to move the panel in relation to the die, I used a piece of Post-it Tape to tape the panel down at one end, creating a hinge. I swung the panel up and then placed a piece of gold foil over the die, shiny gold side down. I replaced the ink-blended panel and then followed the instructions for my foiling machine to foil the panel. Below is an example of the order and orientation of the die, foil, and ink-blended panel on the heating plate (when I went to actually foil, I aligned all these pieces, as described above).

    After peeling away the sheet foil to revealed the foiled panel, I adhered a sentiment that I made using the Big Hello Sugar Script die set, gold mirror card, and vellum.

    Hello, Birch Press fans! Toni here with you today sharing another idea I had using the Honeycomb Bevel Plate Layers and Memory Box Sunset Blush Wide Washi I used on a card a couple of days ago.

    I applied the Sunset Blush Wide Washi to a white piece of cardstock then embossed a Kind Hearts sentiment in black in the corner.

    I then cut the piece using Honeycomb Bevel Plate B.

    I popped out some of the honeycomb cells and adhered what remained to the card front cut from a citrusy yellow-green from the Sunny Yellow 6×6 pad.

    I cut another set of honeycomb from a thick white cardstock and adhered layers of it beneath the floral pieces to create a cool height differential.

    I had leftover honeycomb from my inspiration card and used that to “scatter” honeycomb beyond the edges of the washi as well as to add a few sponged cells. I then spattered the lot with orange and white spray inks. Dreamy!

    Hello, Birch Press fans! Toni here with you today sharing a watercolor floral card featuring a mix of the new and the old.

    I watercolored the base layer of the Eucalyptus Stem and Berries Contour Layers dies using Zig Real Brush Markers.

    I also watercolored the smaller of the Simple Butterfly Contour Layers dies, keeping them separate so I’d have two butterflies.

    On the card base, I applied Memory Box Sunset Blush Wide Washi Tape, smoothing out air bubbles as I went along. It’s a lot like working with wall paper but stickier–LOL!

    I next cut out the Honeycomb Bevel Plate Layer Set with the lower layer in Vintage Pastel Mirror Pad 6×6 paper and the upper in white.

    I adhered the honeycomb layers to the card front and added the Kind Hearts sentiment which I had stamped onto white cardstock sponged with a touch of Distress Oxide Mustard Seed.

    I tucked the blossom in place behind the sentiment and added the butterflies for a lovely spring/summer scene.

    Hi and thanks for stopping by! Today I thought I’d make a floral bouquet to show you how well the new Birch Press Design floral release looks assembled together on one card!

    I’m smitten with these gorgeous florals and think I could make with them all day long. I’ve cut the flowers in lots of different colors so I have my pick of the garden.

    The background of my card is the Viola Layer B from the 3 die set. I love the pierced design and think it looks like lace!

    I arrange the florals on a piece of clear plastic the size of my card base to help me figure out the design. I started with the two larger Winsome Roses in the lower corner with two Eucalyptus Stems tucked underneath. Pimpernel leaves are tucked under the roses, and Tiny Tuft and Star Flowers are scattered through the foliage.

    The finishing touch are some dew drops – some Memory Box Fairy Drops! I really love making with these florals.. it’s rainy here and sometimes you have to make your own sunshine!

    Hello, Birch Press fans! Toni here with you today sharing a Nordic-inspired friendship card.

    I diecut the Flora Plate Layer B from Memory Box Stormy Blue 6×6 Paper Pad and adhered it to the card base.

    Next I diecut the Wispy Blooms and Tiny Tuft Flowers & Leaves Contour Layers from Memory Box Lush Green and Sunny Orange 6×6 Paper Pads. I love those colors with the pale blue.

    I embossed the Brush Sentiment onto a strip of the same blue paper and adhered it to the bottom of the card, creating a window box look. I really like the contrast of the solid paper against the patterned background, don’t you?

    Hello crafty readers! This is Design Team member Crystal Komara here with you today. Today I’m sharing two cards made using my favorite spring themed die from Birch Press Design called the Petal Egg Layer Set. There are just so many color combinations that could be used to create the perfect Easter card using these beautiful layering dies.

    Card details:

    The base of this A2 sized card is made from 80 lb. Neenah Solar White Smooth cardstock. Using Layer Plate C of the Butterfly Garden Layering Plate, I die cut the first layer from white cardstock. I saved some of the extra butterflies off to the side (to use as added 3D pieces at the end). Using the Petal Egg Layering Set, I die cut Layer B from purple glitter cardstock (from the Twinkling Jewel 6 x 6″ glitter pad) and Layer A from white cardstock. I created a background using blue and purple alcohol inks on Yupo paper. Once this dried, I fussy cut the shape of the egg to fit it behind the egg as the third or base layer.

    I stamped the sentiment “thinking of you” from the Contempo Greetings stamp set in Versamark ink on a piece of purple Vibrant Violet cardstock. I heat embossed the sentiment with white embossing powder and then used the coordinating Contempo Greetings die to die cut it out. I adhered the greeting to the front of the egg using 3M foam adhesive. Lastly, I added a couple white butterflies (from the background) to add more texture.

    I created a second card using the same instructions (as above), but I simply changed out the background mat to a purple cardstock from the Vibrant Violet paper pack.

    Hello readers! This is Design Team member Crystal Komara here with you today sharing another way to use the Adornment Peony dies. Last week on Valentine’s Day, I shared this very traditional card using the same dies and today I chose to create a very different look using alcohol inks as the focal point behind the outline dies.

    Card details:

    The base of this A2 sized card is made from 80 lb. Neenah Solar White Smooth cardstock. Using Layer Plate B of the Flora Layering set, I die cut this layer from white cardstock and adhered it to the base of the card.

    For the alcohol ink peony: On a 4″ x 6″ piece of Yupo Paper, I added drops of raspberry and sherbet alcohol inks and blew the ink around. Then I added drops of lime and citrus alcohol ink. Once this dried, I used the base shadow layer of the Adornment Peony dies to die cut the base out. On white cardstock, I die cut the top layer of the Adornment Peony (notice the white shadow outline around the flowers). I adhered this thin outline die using a fine tip liquid glue.

    I adhered the peonies to the card using 3M foam adhesive for added dimension. Lastly I stamped the sentiment “happy birthday” in pink ink on white cardstock. This sentiment is from the Contempo Greetings stamp set. I die cut the sentiment using the coordinating Contempo Greetings dies. I adhered the sentiment to the lower left corner also using 3M foam adhesive for added height.
