Welcome to another Birch Press Design inspiration post. I hope that you have had the opportunity to play with some of the stamps from the newest release. Today I have a quick tutorial for you using the new Sparkler Butterfly Layered craft dies. These beautiful butterflies have four different layers that can be used together to create some awesome dimension or on their own with their distinct individual characteristics. Today I used the Sparkler Butterfly Layer A and the Sparkler Butterfly Layer C to create a pretty card that could be used for a bridal shower, a wedding, a birthday or even as an encouragement card.

I began by sponging some Distress Oxide inks on to three panels of Bristol Smooth cardstock with a foam blending tool. I divided each panel in two and I sponged colours that complimented each other on the top and bottom.

Next I sprinkled some clean water over the panels and then picked up some of the colour with a paper towel. Then I cut the tops with Layer A and the bottoms with Layer C.

Next I prepared my sentiment using the Wishing You the Best clear stamp set. The phrase ‘you all the happiness’ was stamped directly on the card base and the word wishing was stamped and die cut with the Wishing You the Best craft dies.

The butterflies were layered together and adhered in the middle allowed the wings to be free to bend slightly up for added dimension.


These dies along with this technique made for a really beautiful quick and easy card with lots of interest and also easy for mailing as the butterflies can lay flat.

Happy Friday!  Today I have a card to share with you featuring the Let Your Dreams Set Sail stamp set.

 

 

With warmer temperatures finally here, I was inspired to create a nautical scene with rich summer colors.

 

 

For the background, I die cut the Waves Plate A die out of white cardstock.  I lightly sponged some teal ink to the middle of the waves layer.

 

 

I sponged the card base with yellow and teal inks, creating a sunny water scene.  Before adhering the waves die cut layer onto the card base, I sprayed some adhesive onto the bottom third of the die cut and sprinkled on some glitter.

 

 

After stamping the images from the Let Your Dreams Set Sail stamp set, I die cut them with the coordinating die set.

Happy Friday and welcome back for another inspiration post. Today I am using the fabulous new Waves Plate to create a masculine birthday card. Design team member Jeanne touched on this a few weeks ago, but it is always a bit more challenging to create cards that are suitable for the men in our lives. The Waves Plate craft dies and the new Let Your Light Shine clear stamp set are just perfect for creating cards with a more masculine feel but at the same time equally as perfect for a woman.

I took a bit different spin with the dies today by creating a smooshed backdrop for the Waves Plate Die A from Distress Oxide inks. The beauty of the  plate dies is that they are wonderful stacked together providing so much dimension, but they each have their own character and can be used on their own like I did here today. I have a short video for you demonstrating how I smooshing my background and put my card together. I hope you enjoy…

I combined stamps and die cuts from the Let Your Light Shine clear stamp set and the Wishing You The Best clear stamp sets for my card. I did a little bit of stamp surgery by cutting (yes I said cutting) a couple of the sentiments in Wishing You The Best apart being careful to cut between the letters. The original sentiments can still be stamped out quite easily because the two sides of the cut fit right back together.

Here is a more detailed look at the lighthouse. I coloured it just the way I remember the lighthouse at Peggy’s Cove in Nova Scotia, Canada. Built on the rocks, all white with a red lookout at the top.

Today is Day 2 of the new release blog blitz! Each day during the blitz the designers at Birch Press Design will be showcasing some of the fabulous new dies that were just released. With each day comes a chance at a different prize! Today I have the pleasure of introducing the Viva Layers die set!

The beautiful mandala in this set is loaded with possibilities just by switching up the colours of paper you choose either for the whole mandala or by using one set of colours for the outer ring and a different assortment for the inner circle like I did for my sample today. I started off by cutting each layer with a different colour.

I used the new Mandala Card Base craft die and the Mandala Circle die to support the arrangement of my design. I used the turquoise blue as the base for my mandala, using it for both the outer ring and inner circle.

I used a sentiment from the Time to Celebrate clear stamp set along with the You Sugar Script die cut with sparkly silver paper.

I reversed the order of the colours from the outer ring for the inner circle to give it a cohesive look. The mandala inlays right into the Card Frame and once you add the other layers the finished mandala is raised giving it wonderful dimension.

Now for the part you’ve been waiting for…   The prize on this post is the Viva Craft Die Layer B
Viva Layer B has beautiful stitched detail and would look lovely on it’s own.

What a great day for a visit!  We’re kicking off a blog blitz today!! Today I’m sharing the new Kessa Arch layered border die set!  It’s absolutely gorgeous!

You’ll need a different shade of card stock for each layer of the border.  I thought shades of blue would be pretty with a touch of gold.
You can see how some of the die cut holes go all the way through while others let some of the second gold layer peek through.

This clean design is perfect for a large die cut sentiment.  The new Big Hugs Sugar Script is perfect.  I added a stamped strip from the Just Because Clear Stamp set to complete my sentiment “Hugs Crafty Friend” because crafty friends are the BEST!

Hi friends, Eloise here and today I’ll be making a masculine themed card that would be perfect for a Birthday, Valentine’s or even Father’s Day. These new ‘seaside’ items are absolutely perfect for masculine themed cards, products are hard to come by for males and these products are just amazing for that. I’ll be using the new Let Your Light Shine stamp set, along with the Waves Plate Layer Set Dies for my background.

To begin my card today, I pulled three shades of blue cardstock from my stash, and cut each layer from the Waves Plate Layer Set Dies from one of the shades of blue cardstock. I used Layer A from the darkest, Layer B from the mid-tone and Layer C from the lightest. Once they were all die cut out, I added liquid glue on each of the backgrounds and adhered them together. I set them off to the side with something heavy on top to make sure they dried nice and flat.

While I was waiting for my background to be ready. I stamped some of the images from Let Your Light Shine onto some white cardstock. I used some Copic Markers to colour my images in, then used the coordinating dies to cut them out. While I was at it, I also stamped and die cut the ‘Brighter’ word from the same set.

(Copics Used: R24, R29, R89 / C00, C0, C1 / Y11, Y13, Y35 / B0000, B000, 0 / B21, B24, B26 / W3, W5, W7 / E55, E57, E59)

Next, I used a circle die to cut out some watercolour cardstock, then I used a piece of post it tape and cut out a sort of triangle shape, but instead of the sharp point at the end, I made it flat. I made sure to keep both bits of the mask, as I’m going to ink blend over them. I first took the negative mask, laid it over the top of my circle and ink blended some Fossilised Amber and Squeezed Lemonade Distress Ink inside. Once that was blended, I removed the mask and placed over the positive mask. Then, used some Tumbled Glass and Salty Ocean Distress Ink to ink blend the sky. Once I was done, I removed the mask and set it off to the side.

Now I had all my elements to complete my card, I started to assemble. I added some fun foam onto the back of my circle element, and adhered it down onto my waves background off to the left hand side of my card. Then, I used some runner adhesive to adhere down my clouds, and added foam squares to the back of my lighthouse and adhered that down over lapping the clouds, lining it up with the shining light I ink blended earlier. Once those were adhered down, I decided to white heat emboss the ‘You Make My Life’ sentiment onto a thin strip of black cardstock, then adhered that and the ‘Brighter’ sentiment on with foam tape to my card panel as well. To finish up, I adhered the whole panel onto a white card base and that finished up my card for today.

Have you had a chance to check out all of the amazing new products at Birch Press Design? The mandala collection is so gorgeous and the possibilities are truly endless. Today I have a video tutorial for you using the brand new Mandala stencils.

I have to say that they were an absolute pleasure to blend with, they did not buckle, didn’t catch when I went over them with my blending tools and they were so easy to clean. Today I made two cards using the four piece Mandala stencils both with the same four Distress Oxide inks! For the hello card I used from stencil D to A with Wild  Honey, Spiced Marmalade, Picked Raspberry and finally Wilted Violet. For the you card I did the reverse starting with Wilted Violet then Picked Raspberry, Spiced Marmalade and Wild Honey.

Here is a short video tutorial showing you how I used the stencils to make my card. I started off by using repositionable tape runner to adhere my card base to the craft mat.

Reversing the colours was a bit of an experiment but I really liked how it turned out. Which colours do you like the best?

Thew card were finished out with the newly released Hello Sugar Script die and the You Sugar Script die. Both with stamped sentiments from Just Because clear stamp set.

I hope you’re having a great day!  Today I’m sharing a pretty in pink wedding congratulations card made with lots of goodies from the Birch Press Design Store.  Here’s a peek at the finished card…

I started with the FIORI HEART Layers B & C die cuts from pink and gold.  I didn’t use layer A because I didn’t want to cover up the pretty stitched design.  When working with layered dies gold is always a beautiful accent layer.  It adds sparkle and elegance to any project.

I layered LOVE STORY paper from the store on a card base before adhering the FIORI HEART die cuts.

There are lots of beautiful embellishments in the store, like these paper flowers.  Can you spot the sprinkle of NOT SO HEAVY METAL Sequins?  The “Congrats” sentiment comes from the HOORAY FOR EVERYTHING stamp set, and of course coordinating dies are available.
A GENEVIEVE BUTTERFLY makes a pretty accent.  This butterfly is available in 3 layers – but each one looks amazing “as is” no stacking required.  It’s really not necessary to have “all the layers” of each design to make something beautiful.

I’m loving the new Washi in the store too.  The MORNING FIELD BRASS washi adds a pretty metallic accent that picks up on the gold in the FIORI HEART.  Can you spot the STRAWBERRY MILK Washi?  When working with pattern paper I like to add washi where there are seams from adding layers.

I know you’ll love working with all the craft supplies in the shop.  They’re the very best quality that are always a pleasure to work with!

Hello there!  Laurie here and I’m back today sharing a fresh, Spring colored card with you!

 

 

One of my favorite ways to add vibrant colors to a card quickly, is to use a multi step stamp set.  On my card today, I chose the Delicate Peony set.

 

 

For the background, I cut a piece of the Bubblegum Dots Patterned Paper.  I wanted to soften the paper just a bit so that the flowers would stand out more.  To achieve this, I layered a piece of heavyweight vellum over the patterned paper.  You are still able to see the paper but the colors and pattern are muted just a bit, making your focal image easier to see.

After stamping all of the flowers, I die cut them out using the coordinating Delicate Peony die set.

 

Stamping with multi step images is easy!  I start with the solid image first and ink it up using the lightest of my ink pads.  Next, I stamped the bold shading image in a slightly darker pink.  I find using a stamp positioner helps a great deal when lining these images up, but it is not necessary.  For the last step, I stamped the outline image in the darkest pink/red ink.

 

 

For the sentiment, I stamped and die cut the Thanks stamp from the Just Because stamp and die set bundle.  I also embossed one of the companion sentiments from the same set directly onto the vellum.

Happy, happy Friday! Today I’m sharing a technique that will allow you to stretch your dies even further!

 

 

This card came about as one of those crafting “happy accidents”. I was flipping through my dies in search of the Perfect Pears Die Set and a saved die cut (I never throw away full cover plate die cuts but store them for future use) fell out onto my desk. The die cut was one that I had cut out of silver cardstock with the Delfina A die. As I was getting the pears out to die cut the through occurred to me that the two would look great together!

 

 

I knew that I didn’t want to use the silver but thought gold would be a better choice for my pears. So I die cut two of the Delfina A layers from gold cardstock. I also die cut two of the largest dies from the Perfect Pears die set.  I sponged ink on them using Distress Oxide inks. To add some extra texture, I splattered the pears with both dark green and gold paint.

 

 

I adhered the gold die cuts on top of the pears and trimmed around the pear edges.  The Perfect Pears die set included the leaf and stem dies, so I die cut those out of green and Kraft cardstock.

 

 

For the background of my card, I sponged some turquoise Distress Oxide ink.  Again, for added texture, I splattered on both water and gold paint.

I chose the “We’re the Perfect Pear” sentiment from the Love and Miss You stamp set.  I created a little banner by trimming each end and then adhered to the card using dimensional foam.  For embelllishment, I sprinkled on some gold sequins from the Not So Heavy Metals sequin mix.

 

 

I have to say that I really love how this turned out!  The gold die cuts add a touch of elegance, giving the pears a whole new look!
