Golden Thanks and Soothing Florals | by April Antonio

Welcome back to the Birch Press Design blog! April here sharing a slimline card project using the Tropical Hibiscus Contour Layers die set and the new Thanks Sugar Script hot foil plate and die set.

I started this card off with a piece of the white woodgrain cardstock by cutting it to be slightly smaller than a 4″ x 9″ slimline card base. I love the white woodgrain cardstock because it adds some subtle texture to the design.

Next, I used some really pretty blues from the Ocean Blue cardstock collection to cut the flower layers multiple times and colors from the Lush Green collection to cut the leaf bases out. For some reason I was compelled to cut the top part of the leaves and the flower stamen from white cardstock and ink blend them orange and green — I think I was just in the mood to ink blend!

Next, I assembled each flower and leaf using the layers I cut out and the instructions that accompanied the die set. Then I arranged them on the card front making sure to leave space for the hot foil thanks that was foiled onto white cardstock. The hot foil is so pretty and the photos just don’t do it justice!

Once everything was in the a place I felt comfortable with, I folded the ends of the flowers up so they curved a bit. Then I glued the flowers and leaves down using liquid glue. I made sure with the flowers to only glue the center, leaving space for the curved corners to add some dimension to the card.

I adhered the thanks with some thin pieces of foam tape, and added a few clear dots around the card to be the ‘water droplets’.

I really like this new Tropical Hibiscus die set, and how easily I could layer the pieces together. Also, whether you are using multiple cardstock colors, or just ink blending white pieces, the results will look beautiful.

I hope this post has inspired you to go play with your supplies and check out all the wonderful layering dies that Birch Press has to offer.

I hope you’re having a good day! I love flowers! When it’s too cold outside to enjoy the garden, I’m happy to be making with them in my craft rooms so the new release makes me HAPPY!

I like to cut lots of flowers in several different shades of cardstock all at the same time. When it comes time to making I have my choice of flowers to arrange. I lay them out on a clear piece of plastic the size of my card front before I commit and adhere them in place.

Because the plastic is clear I can pick up the entire arrangement and layer it over different backgrounds. For this card I used Viola Plate Layer A. Using just one layer of the three layer background set allows more color and gives a lacy look to the background.

To create a focal point I added an Arista Layer B die cut with a darker shade of pink adhered underneath. The foliage is adhered flat to the card base, and the florals are adhered with adhesive foam tape. This adds dimension.

Remember when you’re making that there’s no right or wrong.. it’s all about what appeals to you. I hope you’ll mix and match your different sets and imagine your flowers in unexpected colors. I think you’ll be delighted with the results!

    Floral Bouquet Hello
    by Jeanne Jachna

Hi and thanks for stopping by! Today I thought I’d make a floral bouquet to show you how well the new Birch Press Design floral release looks assembled together on one card!

I’m smitten with these gorgeous florals and think I could make with them all day long. I’ve cut the flowers in lots of different colors so I have my pick of the garden.

The background of my card is the Viola Layer B from the 3 die set. I love the pierced design and think it looks like lace!

I arrange the florals on a piece of clear plastic the size of my card base to help me figure out the design. I started with the two larger Winsome Roses in the lower corner with two Eucalyptus Stems tucked underneath. Pimpernel leaves are tucked under the roses, and Tiny Tuft and Star Flowers are scattered through the foliage.

The finishing touch are some dew drops – some Memory Box Fairy Drops! I really love making with these florals.. it’s rainy here and sometimes you have to make your own sunshine!

I’m so excited with the latest Birch Press Design Release because it’s all about FLOWERS! I am anxious for spring to arrive, and until I have some blooms of my own in the garden I’m making away in my craft room with these beauties.

I love that the new florals are sized perfectly for arranging together. And each layered floral die set comes with a fold out graphic showing you how to assemble each one so there is no guessing.

I always start by laying out images on a clear sheet of plastic the size of my card base. I can slide different color panels underneath to see exactly what the card will look like when it’s assembled.

My card features the Wispy Blooms, Fuddled Leaf and Tiny Tuft Flowers. The sentiment is from the Kind Hearts stamp set that has a mixed pretty handwritten and print font.

My background is just a single layer of the Viola Plate die trio background set. It’s gorgeous enough with it’s pinpoint print to leave all on it’s own.

The new layered blooms are absolutely stunning and have you smiling like the real thing! The only thing you’ll miss is their fragrance!

    Flicker Ornament | By Seeka

Hi there, Seeka here and I hope you’re having a great day!

I’ve got a quick an easy card to share today, it features the Flicker Ornament and Flicker Frames dies.

To start, I used the Flicker Frames Layer B die to cut white cardstock and then adhered the two sides of the frame to a 4.25″ x 5.5″ panel of light blue cardstock.

Next, I used the Flicker Ornament Layer B die to cut a piece of dark pink cardstock. I flicked opaque white paint over the ornament and then adhered it to Layer C, which I cut from white cardstock.

I used foam tape to adhere the ornament to the background and then added little clear jewels over the background and on the ornament.

To finish, I used foam tape to pop up a sentiment from my stash and then I adhered the card front to a card base.

Thank you so much for coming by!

    Birthday Butterfly | By Seeka

Hello and welcome! Seeka here and today I’m sharing a card featuring a butterfly created with the Butterfly Basics die set.

I started by using a blending brush to blend a peach-colored ink onto a piece of white cardstock. I blended a rough circle and concentrated the color at the center.

Then I centered the solid butterfly die over the ink-blending and cut out a peachy butterfly. I cut the butterfly’s detail layer from white cardstock and then adhered the two pieces together, using just a bit of glue at the center of the butterfly and leaving the wings free to separate from each other. Then I cut the butterfly’s body from gray cardstock and adhered it at the center of the wings.

Next, I created the faux dip-dyed background using Post-it Tape, green dye inks in a light-to-medium range, and a blending brush. I tore a length of 2″-wide Post-it Tape down the middle, lengthwise, and then masked off a portion of a 4.25″ x 5.5″ panel of white cardstock. I blended a very light green ink over the exposed area of the panel, and then removed the mask. I positioned the other half of the strip of Post-it tape and repeated the process, using the next darker shade of green. I repeated two more times until I completed the background.

Next, I trimmed 3/8″ off the length and the width of the background and then I stamped the sentiment, from the Classic Sentimental Wreath stamp set, in black ink. To finish, I adhered the butterfly with glue dots and then used foam tape to adhere the card front to an A2-sized card base.

Thank you so much for visiting!

  • Lovely Butterflies on a Honey Comb Die! | By Desiree Kuemmerle

Lovely Butterflies on a Honey Comb Die! | By Desiree Kuemmerle

    Hello Everyone and Welcome Back!

Today’s project I will be featuring the Lovely Butterflies Stamp and Die Set and also the Mini Honey Comb Tile Layering Die!

I chose the Memory Box 6×6 Solid Card Stock Paper Pads in Earth Neutrals and Sunny Oranges and die cut all my layers and adhered them with my liquid adhesive and set them aside to dry.

I stamped the three butterflies for my slimline card onto Bristol Card stock since I was going to be using watercolor brushes for my coloring today. My images were stamped using VersaFine Black ink and then heat embossed with clear embossing powder.

For the coloring, I added water to the image first then the watercolor to allow it to flow in the water. Once my butterflies were dry, I used the dies to cut them out!

Now we can put our card together!

I cut two bases, the first in black and measures 3 ½ in x 8 ½ in. The second panel measures 3 ¼ in x 8 ¼ in. Layered these two panels on top of each other and then applied my layered tiles. I made sure they were staggered along the card. Once they were in place, I added the butterflies with foam squares to give more dimension.

I added my sentiment between the bottom two tiles.

As always, I hope you enjoyed today’s project… and if you want to see more details just click on the video below and see how these projects come together step by step!

Make sure you stay tuned for more wonderful projects coming soon! Have a great day and always remember… Be Creative!

  • Sculpted Greeting Cards

    Sculpted Greeting Cards

    circa3

We’ve been creating innovative craft supplies for over 20 years, so when we decided to create some new craft dies at Birch Press Design, we set out to do something a little different than what is on the market. We created a very intricate look at Memory Box, easily identified in our detailed birds and floral shapes – but at Birch Press we thought we would focus on creating some texture on greeting cards by using layers of shapes.

    circa4

The result is a large collection of dies that coordinate – circles in graduated sizes, squares that layer beautifully and other shapes that play off of geometric simplicity. We designed these shapes to be used on their own – but also to be stacked.

    circa5

For a paper artist, the possibilities are endless! You can layer several colored layers together for a colorful look – or if you plan on adding more to the card, you can keep the layers monochromatic, like we did here with some simple, crisp white layers. The design we used was the Circa Set – Layer A, Layer B, and Layer C.

    circa6

For the Circa set, we designed the circles to “telescope” into the center, slightly offsetting each circle so that when they are layered together, the shapes seem to converge to the center. Sweet!

    circa7

Adding a simple shape on top completes this pretty look – here we used the Poppystamps Delicate Dogwoods die (#1444) (cut the die out in green, red and yellow cardstock, then layer together and adhere to the front of the card). The look is beautiful – and you can make a dozen of these cards in no time!

Don’t be surprised if you want to run your fingers over the card once assembled – the little reservoirs that are created in the card create touchable texture and the way each contour catches the light is breathtaking.

Who knew you could create such lovely texture with layers of simple white paper? Just add these layers to the front of a white notecard (or any of our colored notecards!).

    circa8

Wondering if you can still get an interesting look with a single layer! Absolutely!

This is the Circa Layer A by itself – adding some subtle background texture to the Poppystamps butterfly dies (1378 Devyn Butterfly Trio and 1389 Emelia Butterfly Trio). The result is subtle – but still fun and it creates a nice and simple backdrop to the colorful butterflies.

You can purchase the poppystamps dies at a craft store near you or by visiting poppystamps.com – and if you are ever in the Seattle area, we suggest you try one of the cupcakes shown in the pictures from Trophy Cupcakes! You can not go wrong with Salted Caramel or Strawberry Lemonade – yummm!
