  • Rustic Holly Wreath | By Natasha Vacca

    Hi Birch Press Friends, it is Natasha here and I am excited to be back on the blog today. Today I am sharing a rustic inspired holiday card featuring the beautiful Holly Wreath Layering die set.

    I started by die cutting all the layers from the Holly Wreath layering die set. I die cut layer C using a gold glitter card stock from the Festive Glitter Paper pad from Memory Box. I then die cut layer B and A using the Lush Green paper pad collection from Memory Box. I used 2 different shades of green from the paper pad. Next I added a bit of distressing to both layer B and A using my oxide inks. I then adhered all the layers together using liquid glue. I then splattered my wreath using metallic gold watercolor and white acrylic paint. I set the wreath aside.

    Next I worked on my background with a piece of wood grain paper from Wood Grain White paper pack. I added a bit of distressing to the panel using oxide inks. Once this was complete, I used my distress tool to add texture to the panel edges and then added distress ink to darken the edges.

    Next I die cut a few leaves using the Adornment Dove die set. I added distress oxide inks to the leaves and then embossing powder to the leaves for added texture. I cut a few berries using the Eucalyptus Stem and Berries Contour Layers die set. I used the festive Glitter Pad and die cut the berries in red. To create the look of snow on the berries, I added a bit of embossing ink and sprinkled a white glitter powder on each berry, then heat set the powder with my heat tool.

    To complete my card I chose the Find Joy and Outline die. I die cut the sentiment 3 times and adhered it together with liquid glue. I embossed the sentiment using the same white powder as I used on the berries. I added a twine bow around the distress wood panel, tied the bow and adhered this to my card base.

    I adhered the wreath using foam tape and adhered the sentiment, berries, and leaves using liquid glue. I added a button from my stash on the bottom right corner. I had a lot of fun creating today’s rustic holiday card! The Holly Wreath layering set is truly beautiful!

    Hello, Birch Press friends! I have a pair of cards to share with you today featuring the gorgeous Crochet Snowflake Layer Set. One of the great things about using a layering die set is that you can easily and quickly make more than one card in one sitting!

    I started by cutting two card stock panels to 4″x5.25″ – one in navy blue and one in lime green. I lined up the Crochet Snowflake Layer C die in the middle of each panel to cut out the snowflake. I adhered each of the resulting panels (with the cutout in the middle) onto a white A2 card base. I then adhered the green snowflake onto the navy card panel and the navy snowflake onto the green panel, lining up each snowflake into the exact position as the cutouts in the panels. In order to enhance the look of dimension on my cards, I only glued the very center of each snowflake onto the card panel. This way, the edges of the snowflakes pop up from the background.

    For Layer B, I made a white glitter snowflake for my green card and a white foil snowflake for my navy card. I adhered only the center of these snowflakes right on top of the center of the Layer C snowflakes.

    For Layer A (the top snowflake), I used a navy glitter card stock for my navy card and a lime green mirror card stock for my green card. Again, I only adhered the center of each of these snowflakes on top of the Layer B snowflakes.

    The Layer C snowflake die creates some fun cutout designs in the card panel. You won’t see these on the actual snowflake – you’ll only see them if you end up using the panel that you cut the snowflake from. I added a mix of jewels and gemstones to the round cutouts of the design, again choosing colors that would complement my cards. I finished the cards with a heat embossed sentiment from the retired stamp set called “Joy and Peace.”

  • Be Merry Wreath

    Hello, Birch Press friends. Happy November! The holidays are getting closer and closer, and there is no better time to start making those holiday cards. Of course, I love making them all year round. The most recent release is full of holiday fun. But I wanted to show you how to use some non-holiday products and turn them into a festive card.

    I started my card by dry embossing Layer C of the Flora Plate die set onto the front of a Kraft A2 card base. This is one of my favorite ways to create unexpected texture for a background. I then looked through my collection of Contour Layers die sets for the perfect leaf to create a wreath with. There are many floral sets with great options, but I chose the leaf from the Tiny Tuft Flowers set.

    I chose four different colors of green card stock and die cut a bunch of leaves. I then began arranging them in a circle to get an idea of placement and size. I originally was going to use a word die for a sentiment, but I decided to use the round “be merry” stamp for the center of the wreath. I heat embossed it onto Kraft card stock with red embossing powder and cut it out with the matching circle die. I adhered it to the card panel, and this gave me the center point to build my wreath around.

    There are three sets of leaves that are attached to branches, and I started by glueing the full elements down to form the wreath shape. As my wreath got more full, I would snip individual leaves off to fill in as needed.

    For the berries, I used the Eucalyptus Stem and Berries die set, which is now retired. Again, these berries come attached to a branch (I believe there are seven berries on the branch), but I cut them into smaller bunches or even single berries as needed. When I was finished, I splattered the entire card with some white acrylic paint, making sure to cover the stamped sentiment with some washi tape first.

    Hello again, Birch Press friends! Allison here, and today I’m sharing a masculine holiday card. It seems like many of us often struggle when it comes to making masculine cards. My solution is usually to find a good plaid, or to pick some darker colors and go with a clean and simple design. In this case, I did both!

    I started with the gorgeous new Adornment Snowflake die. I cut the shadow/solid layer from gold foil card stock. I cut the detailed layer from a grayish-blue color (twice to give it a bit of dimension), and then I offset it when I adhered it to the gold layer so that it gave my snowflake twelve points instead of six. There are so many ways that you could adorn this snowflake, but I chose to keep it simple for this card.

    This plaid paper is so gorgeous – it has very thin gold foil stripes in the design. I cut the panel down so that I could leave a little margin of my Kraft card base showing, and then I glued the snowflake to the center. I only glued the center of the snowflake – that way, the points can lift up for dimension. I gold heat embossed the sentiment onto navy card stock and cut it out with the matching die.

    Hello crafty readers! This is Design Team member Crystal Komara here with you today sharing a holiday card with you featuring the beautiful new Holly Wreath Plate Layer set. But, there’s a lot more going on with this card than just a dimensional wreath, there is also a heat foiled background and heat embossed sentiment too, so read on for all the fun details!

    Card details:

    The base of this A2 sized card is made from 80 lb. Neenah Solar White Smooth cardstock. This is my go-to white cardstock for e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g! Using the Gilded Grace Hot Foil Plate, I foiled the first layer of the card. I use a Gemini Foilpress machine for my foiling. I used the Crafter’s Companion Foil Press paper in brass. I adhered this foiled layer directly to the card base.

    I did not foil the inner circle of the Gilded Grace Plate, so instead I stamped the sentiment “wishing you peace” in the center of the circle. Next, I created the wreath. I die cut Layer C (bottom layer) of the Holly Wreath from dark green cardstock. I die cut Layer B (middle layer) of the Holly Wreath Plate from green glitter cardstock. Finally, I cut Layer A (top layer) of the Holly Wreath Plate from light green cardstock. The green cardstock is from the 6″ x 6″ Lush Green paper pack and the 6″ x 6″ Glitzy Glitter paper pack. I adhered all three layers of the wreath together with a fine-tip liquid glue.

    I adhered the wreath to the center of the card using 3M foam adhesive for added dimension. I stamped the sentiment “joy” in Versamark ink on a piece of red cardstock. I heat embossed the sentiment with the Red Robin embossing powder from WOW! I used the coordinating circular die to die cut the sentiment out. The “joy” sentiment and die is from the Contempo Christmas Greetings stamp set and coordinating dies.

    Lastly, I adhered a small piece of gold ribbon underneath the “joy” circular sentiment. I also added a couple red rhinestones to the wreath to resemble berries.

    This card has it all – gold foil, sparkly glitter paper and heat embossing! It sparkles AND it shines!

    Hello, crafty friends! Dee here today with this layered Christmas card featuring products from the latest holiday release! 

    First, I created the background by die cutting each of the Herbarium Plate Layers A, B, and C and adhering them together. 

    Next, I die cut the Adornment Santa pieces using red cardstock for the hat and glitter cardstock for the beard, then adhered those together.

    To finish, I adhered the completed Santa over the Herbarium Plate Layers and added a sentiment strip from my stash!

    Hello crafters! I am excited to be back on the blog today sharing the beautiful new Crochet Snowflake layering die set! Let’s get started!

    For today’s card I am using the beautiful Crochet Snowflake layering die set. This is truly beautiful and has many possibilities! I started by die cutting all 3 layers. I die cut each layer 3 times for added dimension. I die cut Layer B and C using white card stock. I die cut layer A, 2 times using white card stock and one time using a glitter card stock from the Glitzy Glitter paper pad. Once all my layers were die cut I adhered them together with liquid glue.

    I set my snowflake aside and started to work on the card panel background. As I shared in my title I wanted to create a rustic feel for today’s card. I used a gelli print from my stash for the card panel. I also used a distress tool and distressed the edges of the panel. I love the added feel this provides.

    I added additional texture by adding distress ink, as well as embossing glaze to a couple corners of the card panel. Next I added a piece of twine from my stash. I wrapped this around the card panel twice and tied the twine. Next I adhered the card panel to a brown card base. I then added foam tape behind the Crochet Snowflake for additional dimension. I adhered this on top and then added a sentiment strip from my stash to the center of the snowflake!

    Today’s card was a lot of fun! I love layering dies! They are truly beautiful and the Crochet Snowflake has so many possibilities! Thank you for stopping by! I will be back soon!

    Hello, Birch Press Friends! I am happy to back with you today sharing another new product. I can’t stop making holiday cards, and the new Herbarium Layer Plates make it so easy to create stunning cards.

    I used several shades of teal card stock for this card. Instead of using all of the layer plates, I used just the A Layer. I cut the A Layer out of both a regular piece of card stock and a piece of glitter card stock. I offset the glitter piece behind the regular piece and adhered them together with liquid glue. I then glued those to an A2 card base made from another color of teal card stock.

    I took the glitter holly leaf shapes that were leftover from die cutting and placed them back into their spots, but I popped the tip of them up on foam dots to create some dimension. I covered the berry-shaped holes with some red Fairy Crystals.

    I used the Big Joy Sugar Script die for the sentiment, cutting the shadow from the teal glitter card stock and the main word from white card stock. To bring in some more white, I added some white dots all over the design with a white paint pen.

    Welcome back, friends! Dee here again sharing this vibrant, easy-to-recreate holiday card showcasing the Crochet Snowflakes layering dies! 

    To create the background, I used synthetic (Yupo) paper, alcohol ink, a blower, and blending solution. I chose three colors (coral, green, and blue) and used the blending solution and blower to create a background and once complete, I trimmed it down to A2 size. 

    Next, I die cut the Crochet Snowflakes layers A and C in white and silver glitter cardstock. I then adhered them together, slightly offset, then onto the center of the alcohol ink panel. To finish, I chose a precut sentiment strip from my stash and adhered it to the center!

    Welcome, crafty friends! Dee here today, sharing this fun and vibrant holiday card featuring the beautiful new Crochet Snowflake layer dies! 

    To begin, I cut the Crochet Snowflake layers A and B twice, once in white and once in silver glitter cardstock, and adhered them together.

    Next, I sprayed white heavyweight cardstock with acrylic spray paint in vibrant multi-colors. Once dry, I die-cut the center with the Crochet Snowflake layer C. I adhered the panel onto a piece of white card stock and adhered the white and silver glitter layers on top of all. To finish, I added a sentiment strip from my stash and mounted the panel onto a top-folding card base.
